hi folks,

I'm booked on IAD-MSY on UA in August (UA499, departing at 21:25).

Right now, I'm booked in Economy (S) which was a very good deal. I got an economy+ seat so pitch etc is no big issue, neither is IFE (we're talking about 2:35 hours... I could read hemispheres magazine in the worst case ).

checkmytrip does not list any meal on that flight in eco so there probably won't be any food? how would food be in business on that flight? worth upgrading?

thanks for your answers,

ben

No food in economy.

Airlines (at least in the U.S. anyway) tend to stop meal services on those later flights.

A recent CO flight of mine (keeping in mind CO serves more onboard meals than other U.S. carriers) from IAH-LAX had no meal service. It departed around 8:30 pm (20:30).

I'm not sure what would happen in First.

No food on a 9:45 p.m. departure from IAD to MSY in either class. I've taken the 9:45 p.m. IAD-DEN flight a few times and there's no food in F on that flight either. I think the late departures to the west coast (LAX, SFO) would have a light snack in F but nothing in Y. If it's not full I prefer to get a block of three seats and sleep rather than take the upgrade.

Looks like UA499 IAD-MSY is scheduled as an A-319 so you will at least get some IFE. Flight time is just under three hours so it could be short subjects or maybe a film if the crew is so inclined.

In stark contrast to th US, here in the UK BA still serve a full hot breakfast to the whole cabin on a short 40 minute early morning flight from Man to Lgw

All UA mainline and Ted planes have IFE. Also, IAD-MSY wont have food. MSY-LAX does not have food anymore and that is an hour longer (it is a BOB flight).
