Now that DOT has awarded the route rights to China for 2005 and 2006 to CO and AA, what do you guys think of UA being awarded the rights to fly SFO-CAN in 2007?
It seems like all we talked about is CO/AA/DL getting the rights to China. Although UA already has 4 daily flights to China I still think DOT should consider UA's proposal. UA plans to eventually fly nonstop from SFO to CAN. IMHO this is probably better than the service that NW offers from US to Guangzhou with connection through Tokyo. I also believe there is strong O&D demand between San Francsico and Guangzhou (large Chinese population in SF Bay Area and strong ties between the two regions) to make this route work.

All depends on how negotiations with US-China come about with more frequencies.
I can't say UA or NW service to CAN is better. However, due to NW's limited number of 744s, they wouldn't be able to CAN non-stop from the continental US. At least on the NRT-CAN route, there are now three carriers on the route.

The Airbus doesn't have the range. Maybe fly it from Narita, but not from the US. MSP/DTW are way to far.
