i am interested which asian carriers still operate VIE. it seems that years ago there were much more airlines from east asia here in vienna. will this traffic come back again?

well,

MH B772 3 x weekly KUL-VIE-KUL
BR A332 3 x weekly TPE - BKK - VIE - BKK - TPE ( expanding to 5 x weekly by 18th May )
IR A310 1 x weekly THR - VIE - THR

CARGO:

KE 3 - 4 x weekly B744F diff.Routings
OZ 2 x weekly B744F diff.Routings
BR 3 x weekly M11F TPE - BOM - VIE - BRU - BOM - TPE

that´s all i can think of right now.

Rumours about CI, TG, OZ PAX. However i will only believe this when they
touched VIE ground the first time.

Cheers
Martin

TG used to fly to VIE. I think the routing was BKK-ATH-VIE. I'm not sure if SQ still flies to VIE

no, SQ stopped their operations by 1997 if i am right.

Asian Airlines that were used to serve VIE.

SQ, TG, UL, NH, OZ PAX, KE PAX, CA - all gone now, very sad.

what you think are the reasons and how will this develop in the future?
mean, sars and tsunami were a hard hit, but this alone cant be the reason for the situation...

the Reason could be the strong Position of OS Group out of VIE to Asia

SIN - 3 x weekly B772 futher on to MEL
DEL - daily
BOM - 5 x weekly
BJS - 4 x weekly up to daily
SHA - 3 x weekly up to 5 x weekly
TYO - 6 x weekly
OSA - 3 x weekly up to 6 x weekly
CMB / MLE 2 x weekly

it would be interesting to compare pax figures now with back in mid 90ies. when a lot of asian carriers had vienna in their network.

what happened to JAL or ANA? do they only come in summer?

SQ operated VIE from around 1985 to 1998. They tried many routings (including transatlantic to YYZ) and even codeshared with OS for a while, but they always struggled with a combination of poor loads and low yields. The nail in the coffin was the Asian Financial Crisis and the subsequent troubles in Indonesia and other countries in Asia ... many travellers from Europe were frightened away by these problems.

Hm, as BR expanding from 3 x weekly to 5 x weekly on this Route eff.18th of May i doubt CI will step in the same Market now.

By the Way, I am going to BKK with BR today, maybe i wil take a look into CI´s
Office and asking them about this new Flights.

So long

Martin

Does KE plan to start passenger flights to VIE ? They already serve Vienna, but only with cargo-equipment. How about Asiana? Or what are the chances that a Japanese/Chinese carrier will add VIE to it's network
