Does CO Still Use Their Deicing Structure At EWR?

Watching the news in our area regarding all the snow with them showing occasional pictures of area airports and all of the delays, I began to wonder about that structure that CO has at EWR. I know that it was built by them to deice planes up to 757 size and that it works by using infrared rays to heat up the skin of the aircraft (correct me if I'm wrong). However, I haven't heard anything about it recently. Is it still used? Is it cheaper to use than deicing fluid? I'm sure someone that works for CO would have the answer to this.

It's the structure behind the plane in this pic:

Do they use it when there are passengers in the plane? That must be a pretty cool experience.  Smile

They only use " secondary" which is right before they get on the runway its the one where the old tower was located.

In January '02 my flight to Cancun (#1933?) taxied into the tent, the Captain explained the process which took about 10 minutes. The aircraft was a 737-900,

Wasn't the Port Authority supposed to build one at JFK for this season? What happened with that?

I was on a flight from EWR to MSP in December 2003 that used the "tent."

Is CO the only airline that uses the structure, considering the fact that they paid for it, or do they allow other airlines to use it on a fee-per-use basis?

I've only seen CO aircraft using the Radiant heat "tent", all the other airlines use their ground contractor for de-icing (ie. Signature Aviation).
