American Airlines today begins non-stop service between Miami and Hamilton, Bermuda. The non-stop service is being launched after many years of the Bermuda government and tourism board trying to convince American to start the route, hoping for it to bring quick and easy connections between Bermuda and the Caribbean & Latin America. The service will initially operate twice a week, leaving Miami on Wednesdays and Sundays, and leaving Bermuda on Mondays and Thursdays, with Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Effective 10 June 2005, service will operate five times a week, with departures from Miami daily except Mondays and Tuesdays, and from Bermuda daily excepet Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Today's flight is sold out in business, with a handful of seats remaining in coach. Overall, future bookings are looking healthy.
Bermuda is the 16th new non-stop destination AA has launched from Miami since June 2002. American Airlines and it's codeshare partners operate 258 daily non-stop flights between Miami and 95 cities, including every major capital in Latin America (and, in total 31 of the the Americas' 35 capital cities) and five European cities.
From Bermuda, American also offers two, daily year-round non-stops to New York City/JFK.
