Hi, I was wondering why BMI does not fly to New York. They fly to Washington, Chicago and Las Vegas. So why not fly to New York, I think that it would be good for the company to mabey fly to some other Cities in the United States such as New York, or Boston, or Los Angeles or Miami. Above all they should be flying to New York in my opinion. I think that the New York route would be very popular.

Probably because of rights limits by the UK and US government and that VS has rights the 'other' UK based airline (besides BA) that can operate in/out of LHR. Also, the costs of operations in the NYC market, at JFK or EWR may be not be sound enough to make it worthwhile. I do agree that they could give far better connections than all but BA at LHR or other airports. Also, which UK airports does BMI operate their flights to LAS, IAD and MIA?

There is no need for them to fly to New York City. Both British Airways and Continental already fly the route non-stop. They are also a Star Alliance airline, and both Washington Dulles and Chicago O'Hare are Star Alliance hubs. They have a very small long-haul fleet and have to carefully use their long-haul planes.
As for other destinations, bmi actually was planning on starting non-stop Miami-Manchester service last winter, but American Airlines decided to start the route, and bmi held off (there is not room for two carriers on MIA-MAN), and went to the Caribbean and Vegas instead. bmi had also looked at serving Boston, but, again, AA started BOS-MAN.

Probably because the competition is too stiff. They fly from MAN and there are already daily flights to JFK or EWR by BA , CO , PIA. DL used to fly several years ago too but gave it up. I agree its a shame - I have used the BMI service to ORD and they are the best transatlantic airline I have flown with (out of DL,BA,KL,LH).
Don't try to keep up with the Joneses - bring them down to your level !

BMI fly to IAD and ORD as they are Star hubs with UA. MAN-New York area is flown by CO to EWR and BA/PIA to JFK. If they went to JFK, then they would be fighting for point to point traffic which may be a difficult battle, even though they would be bringing much needed product improvement.

Unfortunately for JFK I anticipate non, as BMI are not going to run the route. BA fly that old 763 on the route, last time it went tech on me, they routed me via Hellrow, then lost my bags going from LHR to MAN. I am not crazy about BA, so I use the better service airlines in US, CO and BMI when flying to MAN from BDL.

It is probaly because of thier conection with UA. The reason why they fly to ORD and IAD is that passengers can transfer to other place, same with JFK but not as many. I would love to see BMI coming into JFK but I do not see it happeing. Maybe EWR.

I wouldnt recommend JFK nor EWR to BMI from MAN due to strong daily competition provided on both routes by BA and CO + PIA 5 weekly MAN-JFK on B 743s-B 777s.
Its best to stick to either MAN-LAX or MAN-SFO preferably LAX...MAN-DEL and MAN-BOM definitely needs to be given a serious look 4 weekly each A 332s which can connect then with the MAN-ORD/LAS/IAD flights. There is enough O&D and 6th freedom traffic ex India bound for MAN and USA respectively for BMI to tap into.
But MAN-BOM/DEL can only happen once British airlines are allowed under an amended bilateral arrangement with India to increase their weekly frequencies.

I wish that BMI would establish more of a hub presence in Manchester. Yes, I know they have are very large there, but the connection possibilities from the US are very limited. Many of their cities are unavailable unless you make a double connection at MAN and LHR.

Sadly the routes are there to concentrate on connectivity to many destinations at the US end, but not at the European end. Don't expect any of that until the day (if ever) they can fly the routes from LHR.
