Hi,
I was checking the arrivals and departures at this airport and was impressed to see that they receive today at least 3 flights from Martinair from different routes: SYD, HKG.. why would a flight from AMS to HKG be routed through SHJ or Condor flight from Germany to Puket? As well i noticed at least 5 Cargo flights from FRA on LH. What on this area?

Sharjah is the main cargo hub in the middle east. Cargo will move on from there to pretty much any point in the Middle East, Indian subcontinent or Africa.
I don't know if they still do, but LH used to feed all their cargo into Sharjah beofre moving it on to India using a local cargo carrier they had an interest in.
Its an absolute mecca by all accounts for those people who love to see rare cargo aircraft they wouldn't see at their local airport (particularly russian types).
Just when I thought I could see light at the end of the tunnel, it was some B*****d with a torch bringing me more work

SHJ is the LH Cargo stop in the Middle East for many flights to Asia. Increasing the payload of the flights drasticly with the stops. And for cargo it is not necessary to fligh non stop... All these airports are used for this cargo stops. Also carriers like CX, MH etc. stops there.

SQ Cargo typically has 4 to 6 flights tech stopping in SHJ on a daily basis. Cheap fuel ground handling make a perfect stop for its Asian-European cargo runs.
