Just looked at the Boeing orders for this week, usual expected, but there is a 747 cancellation. Anyone know who it is?

Good question Col

From having a look at the unfilled orders I'll go with one of the following 2 Carriers;

Atlas Air: 1 unfilled from original order of 16 booked 29/8/1998, or,

Cathay Pacific: They still have 1 744F yet to be delivered from an original order for 6 in June 1994. Given they're activity in the used 744 market recently they may not have the requirement for this final frame.

Those are just my thoughts and a link below is the source I used. Just do a search by model. Somehow, I don't think we'll see the 4 outstanding 744 orders for PAL ever delivered to them.

PANAM_DC10,

G'day Mate,

I will go with Atlas, but CX 744F I believe has just been delivered, so will come off the unfilled anyway. I was trying to think of a carrier that may have swapped some 777's for the 747, but only AF really stood out, but they probably require that second ERF.

I too cannot see PR taking the four 744's, maybe Boeing could get them to change to 787's.

Sorry to say it, but the 747 and 767 may be halting in a similar timeframe! Two of my favorites.

Col

Agree, Atlas appears most likely. CX is still outstanding, IIRC the single 744F has yet to be delivered, at least, direct from Boeing. I don't believe it's a swap either as only recent conversions involving 777s is ANA for 773ER from 763.

Not quite yet....perhaps? At least for the 747 line, this from Boeing's Mr Baseler:

"Right now we're out talking with airlines. I suspect we will proceed, I suspect we have enough interest from the customers, but only time will tell. But it's very important for our whole strategy to have that there and very important for our customers."

A little vague though he spoke in Madrid yesterday he did mention that they had been talking to 12 customers about it. There's another thread about it with a bit more detail.

PANAM DC10,

Hate to say it, but I think the 747 will be gone if the 380 lives up to performance. My view is that by clearing the lines up, they actually focus on whats left, which is a very good product range. The 787 is key to going forward, as this will drive development of the 737/777 replacement, and will also put them back in competition to the 380. If they do a 747ADV, it would be a stop gap, and may not make any money. I like the orders now coming in for the 739, as Boeing only offers this instead of having the 757 fighting against it. The 736 may also do better with the 717 going.

So the clean up may be better for focusing both Boeing and their customers.

Col
