I have to agree with the voices on the tape. I did not think he was going to hit V1 in time. Great video. Head on with the Queen of the skies!!

A guy says at 23 seconds 'Jesus Christ!', then another pipes up '... not gonna make it..'.
To be honest I thought the vid was gonna be more dramatic than that; I see that it does only just make it off by the time the main bogies lift off the ground but the distance and camera angle doesn't help. Probably would have been more dramatic taken from the side or RIGHT on the end of the runway.

Every time there is a 5 star video at fl350 do we have to be remineded at this forum? Last week it was the delta 737. And the perception is what makes this video great there was more than enough runway for a 747. The guy in the background says "oh man he's not going to make it"

Yes, and we also have to be reminded to use spell check on here as well!!
Reminded (correct spelling) not as you spelled it above.
As for the video, not everyone on here surf's fl350.com as much as they do the message boards here. I thought it was a great video and decided to share it with other aviation enthusiasts on here who had not seen it yet. You don't like these threads, don't post on it then!!!

Wow! Thanks for the great clip! I think if I was the video guy I would have moved near the end there. It did look as though he was'nt going to make it.
I always appreciate a interesting pic or video clip so thanks again and keep them coming!

Thats a pretty cool video....intimidating to see a whale bearing down on you like that. I have to agree with the highly technical exclamation of the guy at 25 seconds...."Jesus Christ"....

I don't think it was as close as people are saying; the perspective of the camera skews our view. He appears to start rotation at the 1500 ft marker, and is airborne by the 1000 ft marker, from the looks of it.
What I had fun seeing was the plane dipping and rising as it went over the uneven surface of the runway! And of course, the jet blast...love that!

Sit at the end of runway 32 in Anchorage. Just about every 747 going to Asian is like that video. Iv'e seen 747's leaving SFO as well like that. And thats with 10,000+ feet of runway. Though a great viseo, I expected more.

I totally agree with you. I have watched 747's takeoff and land all day long in the past. I have never been that close to the end of a runway before facing a 747 coming straight at me, (what a rush that must have been) with the exception of SXM and maybe I was there on a crappy week, none of the landings were as low as the pictures I have seen on here. Non the less, it was a great time indeed.

It's possible, the only doubts I have to that are the people on the ground saying "he is not going to make it". I have never been to that airport before, I don't know the layout. The spotters in the video obviously do, and seemed to show concern that rotation was not sooner.

Still a very impressive vid, if they had never seen it rotate with such a short distance to go it certainly would have been brown trousers time

Phoning it in from a place with no phones.
25 TJCAB: probably also looks close because of the zoom intensity of the camera, the runway will appear short
26 GothamSpotter: The perception of distance from that angle and through a zoom lens is deceiving. It IS an awesome clip, but I'd estimate the aircraft lifted off with
27 747400sp: Try taking off a fully loaded 747 200 from LAX. The only airline I seen fly fully loaded 747 200 from LAX was Air New Zealand, on there LAX-AKC route.

31 JumboJet: Runway dimensions at BOH: 26/08 2271 metres x 46 metres or if you prefer 26/08 7449 feet x 151 feet Does anyone know if this was a 26 or 08 departure?
32 OV735: Pretty neat, but I'd say there were a good 200-300 metres of the runway left when the main gear took to the air. It doesn't beat the Domodedovo Il-96
33 Airgeek12: That was a great video! Thx for the link.
35 Rick: That video was more dramatic than it really was. As an avid airplane watcher, I have watched planes take off for the last 20 years from Gravely Point
