AA Eagle Vs. AA Connection?

Hey there - this is perhaps a stupid question, but I've never understood the difference between American Eagle and American Connection. They're both contract carriers flying RJs, so why are they marketed differently?

For that matter, what about DL Connection vs. DL Express? AA and DL stand in contrast to NW, CO, US, and UA, who market all their regional affiliates under a single name (NW Airlink, CO Express, etc.) Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A second, slightly different question: I've seen one or two US A319s (at DCA, I think, might have been LGA) that say "US Airways Express" on them. Since when do express carriers fly mainline jets? In US's case, what route(s)?

American Eagle is a part of AMR Corp.. American Connection are made up of regional airlines not owned by AMR Corp.

DL express does not exist anymore, but was also mainline Delta jets.. DL connection is made up of regional airlines (both owned and not owned).

The US aircraft you saw was probably the E.70, which looks like a mainline jet. On the windtip, did you see a pointed arrow-looking extension, or a upward-curved extension. It it was the pointed arrow-looking (<), it was a 319.. if it was an upward-curved (_/), it was a E70...

American Connection flights are based out of STL - they are the old TWExpress flights. While TWA is gone, their commuter subsidiary is still around.

I believe I read somewhere (here, probably!!) that there are different contracts and unions representing the two companies, which is why they maintain separate identities.

Also you will find the vast majority of American Connection flights are from St Louis, owned by Trans States Air, or Chataqua (sp) etc, etc,

So if you see an American Connection plane, more than likely it is headed to St Louis  Smile

American Eagle is an entity owned by AMR Corp. - so technically it's directly controlled by AA, in a way. AmericanConnection is the banner that was created for the former Trans World Express carriers (Trans States and Chautauqua) after AA acquired TWA'a assets a few years ago.

AA Eagle is technically not a contract carrier. The AmericanConnection carriers are.

DL Connection is Delta's regional feeder flying regional aircraft (comprised of Comair, Atlantic Southeast, SkyWest, Chautauqua). Delta Express was Delta's now-defunct low-fare carrier flying 737-200's, mainly between the Northeast and Florida.

Those aren't A319's - they're Embraer 170's.

American Connection is operated in STL by Smyna, TN based Corporate Airlines. They fly fromm BNA to TRI and ATL as well as AA Connection with Bae 31's -yucky.

They used to also operate as Midway's cummuter in RDU.

They recently had a crash in Missouri that killed 13 people unfortunately.

The old TWA commuter was Trans States based in STL. They operate J31s, J41s ATR42 and 72 and ERJ 135/145

Maybe I misunderstood your answer, but Corperate Airlines is not the only American Connection carrier. Chataqua and Trans States are also AmCon. carriers. In fact, I think Corperate only operates the Jetstream flights to Kirksville, Columbia, etc.

I was pointing out that there were several American Connection carriers, but only 1 American Eagle. I mentioned Trans States, Chatauqua is down to 6 AA liveried planes and they are actually leased from American Eagle.

There are two more Continental Connection carries: Gulfstream International, with their main base of operations at FLL and MIA, flies intra-Florida and Bahamas service. And Cape Air flies point-to-point routes in Florida and some regional routes from Guam as Continental Connection. They also fly some regional Caribbean routes with CO codeshares, but not as CO Conneciton.

Actually, there are two. American Eagle (MQ) and Executive Airlines (OW). American Eagle's MIA and SJU bases, and the ATR fleet, are operated by OW, the rest of the bases are operated by MQ. They are both wholly-owned by AMR Corp., although OW almost spun off from them a few years ago, in which case they would have become an American Connection airline.

CO also has Gulfstream Internaitonal, Colgan Air and Cape Air all operating under the Continental Connection banner in Florida and IAH.

Corporate flies 32 J-32...and 6 are in AA colors I believe.

American Connection is....
Chautauqa, Trans States, Corporate.

All Trans States flights out of STL are under American Connection while out of ORD are for United xpress. I think....



however corporate airlines has now changed the name to Regions Air

In a very basic nutshell,

American Eagle MQ and AA are both wholly-owned subsidiaries of AMR Corporation, thus they are in effect the same company (loosely speaking). American Connection is AMR's partnership with separate, independent regional airlines.

CO also has Continental Connection in addition to Continental Express (ExpressJet). All RJ service is provided by ExpressJet, while prop flights are served by contract carriers (CO Connection).

Jbo, There was a third. Just recently Pacific Island is no longer an Airlink carrier.

I'm well aware of this (I work for Skyway)  Smile but I also listed the other subsidiary carriers as well.

I suppose if I were more alert, I'd have put a remark as to which operators were owned subsidiaries. (Skyway, Comair, ASA, etc.)

Ah! That I did not know, when did that happen? I didn't find any announcements on NW's website about it.

I would never inply that Chautauqa was the same TYPE of company as Mesa, just that they are more than just a carrier for one or two Legacies
