US Airways In South Africa!?!?!

When I was searching a flight status on the US Airways website, I accidentally typed in flight 13 instead of the flight I intended to look up, flight 14. When I looked at US Flight 13, it says that it leaves Louis Trichardt, SOUTH AFRICA LCD bound for PIT. Now last time I check, US did not even serve the continent of Africa! The LCD-PIT route shows up as non-stop on the flight status page, but it is not in the booking system. Does anyone have an explanation? It can't be a codeshare, or at least I think not. Maybe a repeating charter as it shows up daily (on the flight status system) when I did more searches. Maybe I'm being ignorant to something, but I'm just curious because I couldn't find an answer.

Thanks a lot!

This came up on FlyerTalk recently.....

It's a dummy flight number for internal uses, like storing information or running system tests. Most airlines do this... just a few where it will show up on the website flight status. I believe US113 is another example. American has quite a few. They aren't real flights.

Aside from the explanation that FlyTheFlag gave - not even SAA or SA Airlink have scheduled flights to Louis Trichardt, so seeing US (or any other international airline) there would be somewhat of a surprise...

I can't believe that this is in the system for the public. I just thought it was something that we can access from sabre, and within US Airways partition It is called a psuedo flight, not sure if I can go into detail about its use, but I can say we use when making certain bookings, or the PNR would not be able to be priced. As mentioned it is for internal use.

Gee, I wonder what kind of aircraft they're using on that route?  Smile Whatever it is is mighty quick ... leaves South Africa at 8:00 AM and arrives in PIT at 9:00 AM! -- only an hour of flight time?  Wink  Wink

Seripusly, though, I would be most curious about what a flight like this would be used for when building a PNR/

Don't forget the time zones. It would still be a quick flight though.

Very good question. I didn't question, I just do it cause I dont have a choice...

Just like you have to put an ARNK between segments that are not connected in a PNR. Why shouldn't sabre allow you to issue the ticket? What the big deal with the ARNK?

That is how they program the system, so we just have to use it..  Smile

Come on, I know there are some major sabre guys on here, speak up....Help us out here...

I think we use every "13" flt number like that. When you flifo any flight with a 13 in it the flight come up like the flight 13 the post is about. Everything from 13,1313, 113 and so on is some weird route most of which contain PIT in them.

SABRE won't allow you to price a PNR with ARNK segments? I could have sworn that an ex-travel agent coworker (psuedo city C2T -- install #592) told me this was possible if convoluted, though he hasn't touched SABRE in several years (Bob - email me if you find this and know the answer  Smile)

Lincoln, what i mean to say, is that without and ARNK between cities that are not connected, you would not be able to price the PNR.

Seg1 GND-SJU
Seg2 LGW-GND

I do pull up reservations that are already ticketed, and do have cities that are not connected without an ARNK. Maybe the ARNK was taken out after, or the reservations agents know something I don't. They usually have little tricks up their sleeves, that we at the ticket counter don't know about.  Smile

However with coterminals. E.g. MIA and FLL... You don't really have a problem.

Seg2 FLL-GND

SO where did you guys get this psuedo flight? One I use is US1213 PIT/OPN.. where the hell is OPN?
