According to this article (in spanish), LAN has officially announced its interest in Southern Winds. LAN states that they have "always kept interest in entering the Argentine market" and that they have began talks with the Argentine Govt' and with Southern Winds. However, according to the article, Air Europa as well as "a brazilian airline" have already shown their interest to Jose Maggio, A4's CEO. http://clarin.com/diario/2005/03/08/elpais/p-00901.htm
This next article is from La Tercera, Chilean newspaper, also confirming LAN's approach to A4.

Quoting JGPH1A (Reply 1): Isn't A4 in trouble with the law for drug-smuggling ? I heard a vicious rumour
Yes it is, and that's why the Arg government has decided to cut off the money it was giving A4, as well as cutting off the rights of some charter routes. Therefore the company is in serious financial difficulties.
I guess the Brazilian airline is OceanAir, my oil business magnate Mr. Efromovich, which recently bought Avianca and is setting up airlines in Ecuador and Peru. He has a lot of cash!
I'm sceptical about a possible interest of TAM in Southern Winds, given the very conservative record of TAM's management. But TAM's presence in MVD with Uair, and in ASU with TAM Mercosur, could mean that synergies are possible and the airlince could come up with an offer.

i´m back in Germany from my great vacations in Chile...flew by LAN
I´ve seen another 767 from SW in LAN´s Hangar...probably a new acquisition. But rumors are becoming true...i guess LAN will enter the Argentine market soon.
