What does everyone make of all the new orders for Boeing aircraft vs Airbus? Is this a trend or just a temporary thing? Right now in 2005 Boeing has a strong 221 orders and Airbus only has 39.

It's just a good month or two for Boeing. Airbus will see more orders I'm sure.
There are a lot of discussions (MAS for example) right now that could make it onto the books shortly.

It's only early March... far too early to decide who's got more... here's hoping they both have a heatlhy, profitable year full of healthy competition!

The site is not accurate or correct in it's reporting.
Ok, so they qualify it by saying is is for announced orders only but even then it is not correct.
1: Bavaria Leasing order for 12 73G is actually 6 firm + 6 Options
2: Hapag Lloyd order for 10 738
Both were included in last years sales figures by Boeing so this site has double counted. Also, they include 37 cancellations for Airbus but not the 14 717 cancellations for Boeing. The number just aren't accurate. Best source is always going to be Airbus or Boeing order site when the order is booked firm. Boeing updates their site weekly and Airbus monthly.

As stated above, Boeing has had two great months. Especially the Ryanair and the Chinese orders. They cover 130 a/c in total.
Airbus has the UPS order where a 37 A300-600F order was converted into a 10 A380-800F order. It's not good for the figures, but for Airbus...
If it wasn't for the Chinese B787 orders I would say that: In general, the Airbus orders seem to be for larger/more expensive aircrafts than the Boeing orders.
The reason I handle the Ryanair and the Chinese orders separately is that they are very big orders that can not be expected to be repeated very often. This time they were announced a month apart but we can not expect this to be any sign of a trend saying that it will happen every month.
No doubt B has been smashing A so far this year. I'm eager to see what happens later on...

Am I the only one to note the sum of the Airbus sales is not correct?
I personally find the way in which the sales of B. and A. are compared on that site utterly ridiculous! Just have a look at that page: How many B737NG are listed there? roughly 160, so +70% of B.'s orders this year are for narrow bodies. On the Airbus side, we see that only a third of their new orders are for narrowbodies, and still we are comparing them as if they were the same?
If an A380 can be compared to a B737, then why can't Embraer's figures compared too? And those of Bombardier? I mean, the gap between the regional jets and the 737 is much smaller than that between the 737 and the A380, even when expressed in percentages.
Maybe it is time for a new system, based on the seating capacity?
Why don't we just count the number of seats on the planes sold (in the standard configuration) iso the number the planes itself? It would give a much more correct impression of who is the big guy of the industru, because with the current system, Embraer or even more ridiculous Cessna might crown itself the leading manufacturer...

Agree, the site is full of errors and double counting.
I still believe the best way to gauge both Airbus and Boeing orders is to wait until they publish their finalised firm orders at year end. There is no harm in keeping a tally of LoI, MoU and announced Options but neither manufacturer should claim those as sales until they are finalised on their respective order book.
