According to Rod Eddington, BA's CEO, BA was the worlds most profitable airline last year, up from 21st in 2000.
Of course he then added, "Being in the most comfortable deckchair on the Titantic was still not a good place to be", "to relax would be absolutely fatal." Several airlines in the top 21 for profitability in 2000, like SR and UA, are in bankruptcy or liqudated.
BA also warns that its fuel bill for the coming financial year beginning April is expected to rise by £300M ($600M) to almost £1.5Billion ($3Billion) under continuing high oil prices.
BA is also looking at upgrading their fullyflat beds in business class (FT).
