A few months ago, I decided to leave Switzerland, and Swiss, for a sunnier life in Spain.

I loved my job as a flight attendant, but after the closure of my crewbase, and the fact that selling Pringles is not really what I wanted to do in the first place, I took the opportunity to get to know another side of an airline's operations and applied as a ticket agent at Madrid-Barajas airport for a major European airline, and got the job.

I started on March 1st, and I must admit it's far less easy than what I had imagined. There's so much to know, that I wonder if I'll ever learn it all. In just a few hours, all my bad judgements about ground staff just flew off. This experience is a real eye-opener!
And the fact that my Spanish is rather so-so, adds to the adrenaline too!

I finished my training 2 days ago, and from now on will be alone at the ticket counter. Kind of scares me .... I hope I won't have any cancelled flights or 100's of misconnections anytime soon!

So, if any MAD workers are out there reading this, leave me a message!
And If anyone else's passing through Terminal 1, make sure to let me know!

Hasta luego!

Too right re: ground staff training.
I spent 5 weeks training to be a BA CSA, and it was hell!

I found fares & ticketing really hard so you must be doing really well to be on the ticket desk on your own!

Good luck and well done

Hey EZYcrew

All the best with your job. Didn't know you have left LX and GVA.
I hope you will also have some good memories about Switzerland and the (old) LX.

Best wishes,
RJ100

No I'm not doing so well on Ticketing and fares!!! Thanks God most fares nowadays are simple point-to-points, so no much reroutings to do so far (keep my fingers crossed).

The fact that I did a 5-week Ticketing course back 14 years ago when I was with TWA (and then never touched a ticket again) got my current airline thinking I'd be fine.... well.... we'll see!

Ah, yes... ticketing and fares... just what I do all day every day... although I do that in the relative (compared to an airport) quiet and calm of an office in a northern suburb of Frankfurt...

Fortunately I don't only get point-to-points onto my desk - but yesterday I got more than I usually wish for: no less than 4 Star Alliance Round The World fares dropped out of our queue-printer within 10 minutes, 3 in First, one in Economy - and since each one had a completely different routing and different airlines being used, I had to go through each one separately (with two having some serious problems in the fare-buildup)...

So, EZCrew, best of luck - and lot's of fun - to you... don't worry - you'll get the hang of things quite quickly - and even those of us that have been building fares and issuing tickets for years don't always know the answer to everything - if possible, ask a colleague if you're not sure, check things twice if you've got a bad feeling the first time around (because the last thing you want is a passenger stranded somewhere because of a few missing letters or numbers on a ticket or in a PNR), and don't worry - most times, the people waiting for you to finish doing your job will wait at least 10-15 seconds before they become impatient...  Wink

Happy ticketing... Big grin

Regards,
Frank
