"LOT's Torn Luxury"

Its been reported by the biggest newspaper in Poland, Gazeta Wyborcza. However this article is only in polish, so I will try to translate the most important:

http://gospodarka.gazeta.pl/gospodarka/1,49621,2601087.html

"After joining STAR Alliance last year, LH and LOT both decided that flights between Warsaw-Berlin, Poznan-Frankfurt, Poznan-Munich, Wroclaw-Frankfurt, Wroclaw-Munich will be operated by LOT. Polish Airlines advertise these new routes heavily on TV and internet. However LOT does not mention anything about these flight's being operated by Eurolot. Meanwhile lots of passengers complain about conditions onboard Eurolot flights. Especially LH pax. "

As example author sites two flights Warsaw-Berlin operated last Saturday.

"Seats were torn and very uncomfortable. Torn, old carpets, dirty meal tables.... The curtain dividing Business Class from Coach looked more like a torn rug. Passengers with LH tickets shook their heads with disbelief (can't think of right word), as they can get better condition on most LCC's ! Price of a roundtrip ticket Warsaw-Berlin - almost 500 Euro!"

"This issue made LH's Director of Marketing/Sales Thierry Antinori very concern. He has been promoting high quality of LH's services during press conferences lately.
"Our passengers should not be traveling in these conditions. I will be intervening soon - he said. "

"LOT's spoksman says that desription of seats and carpets is open to interpretations, and ...there is no problem."
"Eurolot Director of Operations explained that last upgrade to fabric's was made May last year, however materials used turned out to be poor quality, and they will be upgrading all Eurolot's aircraft with leather seat in next 6 months. "

So, what do you think? Repercussions for LOT? Or maybe LH will switch these routes (to LH CRJ's) to preserve its good image? I wish. Ohh, BTW Eurolot operates these flight with AT4's or AT7's. Sorry if I made any translation errors.

No more EuroLOT code-share!!! If LH is smart (as it is), it will put some CRJ's to fly those routes and maybe, consider mainline LOT for other code-shares...

PolAir,

What about LO's brand-new E170's?? Doesn't it fly the E170 on its flights to Tegel, Frankfurt, Munich, etc.??

Unfortunately flights between WRO and POZ to FRA and MUC are operated by the crappy old AT72-200. They should place E70 on these flights in my opinion but ATR makes more profit.

But LH is going to force the to do it. For example they will bring combination of CR7/ARJ on MUC-POZ route soon.

Could not find E170's on these flights (quick check). Too big for Poznan, Wroclaw? Too small for EPWA-EDDF? However there are pics in database of LOT's 170's at EDDF so.... donno.

LOT does operate 170's to Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf, but only from Warsaw I think and not on regular basess. They only have 6 170's.

Actually the first morning flight to Berlin (TXL) was done with a 737-400. This does not surprise me. The LF will be quite low.

The E70s are also doing some routes from Kraków (KRK).

How much A is there is Airliners Net ? 0 or nothing ?

ATR 72-200 (8 planes) were purchased by LOT first hand, starting from 1991 and they are indeed crappy, the age showing.

ATR 42-500 (5 planes) are in better shape, most of them 1995-1996, ex Air Littoral with leather seats.

EMB 170 (the fleet is to be increased from 6 to 10 this year) are going to be deployed on some routes between the regional airports in Poland and Lufthansa hubs. The twice daily GDN-FRA service goes from ER4 to E70 starting from the end of March.

Thanks Konrad,

another couple years and these older AT7 will have to go. Maybe some more ERJ-135/145 orders to replace them.

ERJ is not a replacement for AT7. Much smaller, much higher casm.
They should simply get new ATRs 72-500.
