How Many "real" Airports Does Ryanair Fly To?

I know that all airports FR serves are real airports in the literal sense, and that people actually live in the city of Hahn, Charleroi, etc.

What I mean to ask are how many airports does Ryanair serve according to my definition of a "real" airport.

A "real" airport is defined by this thread is an airport that has:
1. Daily service by at least one Star Alliance carrier
2. Daily service by at least one Skyteam carrier
3. Daily service by at least one OneWorld carrier

I know of three, DUB, SNN, LGW

Are there any others?

Can also think of MAN here in the UK. STN does have service from OK (Skyteam) so that makes it a 'real' airport.

ACAfan, Oh you don't want Pe@rson hear you say that! He stated before that out of the 95 airports served by FR, only 22 can be classed as being secondary.

Anyway I recently flew on their STN-CIA route and was surprised to find out that CIA was much closer to the city centre than FCO.

To be honest then I think you could say most of them are "real" airports following your classification.

I'd say pretty much all of the airports in Italy would be served by Alitalia or its feeder carriers - Genoa, Palermo, Pisa, Turin etc. Many of the French airporits are probably served by somebody like Regional airlines which flies under the AF banner. Then look at a lot of the other airports which many would consider obscure - Tampere - well finnair probably do domestic there and I guess blue1 fly too. Aarhus and Esbjers - SK or their subsidiaries certainly do those. Salzburg, Linz, Graz and Klagenfurt in Austria all have OS services out of there.
Riga of course will be served by the major alliances. Eindhoven - KLM of course. Most of the UK and Ireland ones too - appart from a couple of exceptions.

If anything the majority of airports which do not fall under your definition are the FR bases - such as Hahn, Charleroi, Milan Orio, Girona, Rome Ciamapino and Prestwick. Which is why they have been developed by Ryanair. There are of course some others too like my beloved Newquay Airport (which was a BA destination too until recently) or Blackpool.

But certainly most of the destinations are "real aiports" if we take your definition.

And before anyone says it - I'm no defender of Ryanair (give me full service out of LHR any day!!) - but I'm happy to point out the indesputable facts. Many of the airports they serve are not the main ones for a city or the largest destinations, but most of them do have other more traditional operators serving them too to some extent.

I think what you may have had in mind is at how many cities does Ryanair serve an airport that is otherwise an integral part of international air travel/that have significant traffic other than FR...

(Answers: Torino, Birmingham, London STN, London LGW, Pisa, Valencia, Malaga, Sevilla, Porto, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin - to name just a few)

... or that is the "main" airport for a given city.

(Answer: none except LGW. For example, at Paris it would be CDG or ORY, not BVA. At Stockholm, it would be ARN or Bromma, not Skavska. At Barcelona, it would be BCN, not Reus. At Frankfurt, it's FRA not HHN. Same for BRU vs. Charleroi, MXP/LIN vs BGY, GLA vs.Prestwick,DUS vs. Niederrhein. And so on.)

But as pointed out by many, the other airports may be sort of "forgotten" by the big networks and thus have only the odd RJ service (as is the case for instance for many of the French airports) or only domestic mainline service - but they are "real" airports according to your definition.

I think that anyway the curiosity of the FR network does not only lie in serving airports that are otherwise forgotten or of minor importance in international air travel, but also the combination of these places. For instance, Liverpool-Limoges or Lübeck-Shannon - I mean, it takes a lot of commercial courage to offer these routes. But that is the FR phenomenon, linking "out of the way" places and tapping into or creating markets noone would have thought about.

An intersting way of deciding a "real airport" I have to admit. Funnily enough if we were to expand that to all airports worldwide (regadless of FR) under that we can discount Melbourne and Perth as real airports as skyteam do not serve them I believe (and I don't count something like a KLM codeshare on Malaysian as a real skyteam service). korean goes to SYD but not MEL

Which then made me wonder - is Melbourne the largest city/airport in the world to not be served by all three alliances with their own equipment? I think it has about 16-17 million px per year.

Completely off topic I know - but I'd love to know the answer.

GOA comes to mind as it is the main airport for the city and is served by SkyTeam (AZ and AF), OneWorld (BA) and Star (LH to MUC c/s Air Dolomiti)

Oh yes I forgot Stansted - that may well be the biggest airport in passenger numbers, with Melbourne the biggest city in terms of air passengers not to be served by all three.
