I did a search on this in the forum and only found reference to the upcoming opening so I hope that this posting is not a duplicate
I flew out of and into Delta's new Boston terminal yesterday (opening day). It is quite nice but not as "futuristic" as I might have expected. It doesn't seem to break much new ground in terms of passenger flow (except for one that I'll mention later) or services as far as I can tell. In fact, the Delta Shuttle boarding gates were suffering from a lack of planning with respect to the practice of passengers lining up as much as 20-30 minutes prior to flight time. This has been the practice for years for passengers who are trying to get the best seats (because of DL's unassigned seating policy on these flights). The lines snaked all around the waiting area creating a sense of overcrowding and disorganization. I did hear some gate agents aying "...they (management) will have to fix this...".
Delta has also employed a curious decorative feature in the gate areas. LCD monitors that display flight details (flt no, destination, departure time) are imbedded in a structure that cycles through several subtle color changes emitted by lights from within the structure. This is probably not something that will benefit customers or even be noticed by most of them so I wonder how cost-effective that is.
On the positive side, the front terminal (I have not used the rear terminal yet) is airy, bright and modern. Shops, restrooms and other services are well placed. However, the biggest plus is that the security screening area is MASSIVE. This should help to reduce the long lines and wait times that many of us had become accustomed to at the old terminal.
All told, I give the new Delta terminal in Boston a great big THUMBS UP! Anyone else tried it out yet?

One thing I get from reading about the terminal is that it is the first terminal you come when driving to the airport and the only terminal where you can exit the airport by not having to make the circle in front of the other terminals.
I've never been to BOS so maybe someone can confirm this?
Also it looks like a pedestrian walk way perpendicular to terminal A. Does that lead to the terminal accross the airport? And is it a long walk? What I'm trying to figure out is, in the long run should AF/KE/AZ be in terminal A or does this walk way provide easy access to terminal A?

From what I gather, Delta wanted to put a customs and immigration station in A, but Massport wouldn't have it. As someone on here said once a while back, Massport has "a major hardon for Terminal E." They sunk so much money into Terminal E, that theres no way in hell that they'd do anything that would undermine it in any manner whatsoever.

There are actually two pedestrian walkways, one at each end of the main terminal. The pedestrian walkway at the north end (by Gate A1) leads to Central Parking and Terminal E; essentially you walk through a lobby at one end of the garage and continue to E. It is walkable but it would probably take most people at least 10 to 15 minutes. There are moving sidewalks. The pedestrian walkway at the south end (by Gate A12) leads to Terminal B.
It would probably be faster most of the time to walk since the interterminal bus serving both A & E (11 most of the time, 55 in the early morning and late night) is so infrequent and not especially luggage friendly.
It is the first terminal on the way in to the airport, and I suppose they added a short-circuit exit so you don't have to drive past B, C, D, and E to get out anymore.

I remember the short-cut exit from the old Terminal A had one pass through a short tunnel. Is the tunnel still there or did it get demolished as part of either the new terminal construction or Big Dig construction?

Well, I flew out of Terminal C on CO today and it was like a ghost town compared to two weeks ago. One magnetometer and two bag screening machines were open on the concourse DL and CO shared with no line whatsoever. Delta's former ticket counters have a nondescript white wall in front of them with the only visible announcement from Massport I saw anywhere in the airport that Delta had moved (though the airport signage had all changed). I would have expected some more signage saying that Delta had moved even in spite of the media coverage, especially at the subway station. Most of the electronic equipment in the gate areas had been removed, though I was surprised the gate information display screens (the big plasma screens) were still there and turned on. The gate podiums and much of the seating were also still there. All in all, it was a bit weird to walk around, but I won't miss that cramped concourse.

Yes. Imagine the terminal layout almost like an upside-down U. Terminal C would be right at the top of the curve of the U with all the runways sitting beyond. Terminal A would be on the right and side facing south. From the main terminal you would be able to see almost nothing except maybe some of the departures from 22 and 4 arrivals. Same thing for the satellite. You may be able to see movements to and from the 4/22 parallel runways, but that's about it.

I don't think that is the case. the roadways at logan are a one-way circle around the central parking garage with the terminals on the outside. Terminal A is the first one in but the last one out. I was there last week and didn't see any short cut. Any short cut would have to be a tunnel under the central parking garage and I don't remember seeing anything like that.

Actually, there is a one-way roadway that runs between the two halves of Central Parking (either that or it's between Central Parking and the Airport Hilton. The bus from the subway uses a very short part of it on its extremely convoluted route to the terminals. In the past, there had been very little traffic using it, but on Thursday, there was a nearly endless stream of traffic, so I suspect this is the "short cut."
Actually, C is more like the left corner of the top of the "U"; B would be the right corner.
A has pretty much NO view of the taxiways/runways though you might be able to see something from the satellite. It sits at the end of a cul-de-sac as far as the taxiways/ramp are concerned.

I drove over to Terminal A for kicks. The terminal's Arrivals and Departures driveways both have a fork at the end of the terminal curb letting you curve right to enter Terminal B or left to exit the airport. The left turn curves 180, drops to an 90 degree right underpass ramp under the Arrivals road and rises to join the roadway between the two halves of Central Parking. (The two lanes leaving Terminal A Arrivals and Departures merge to one lane as the ramp goes below ground level.) From there drivers have a left-hand merge with the main Departures road past the Terminal E exit and get the usual choices of Terminal Return, I-90, MA-1A or Harborside Drive.
