Where I work I get to go to dinners and such where there is always something different to spend money on. The other night at a dinner there was an auction for Golfers Against Cancer. CO was graciously a lead sponser. They donated some r/t tickets and had one really nice gift to the high bidder.

To the high bidder, CO would take the winner and three guests down to IAH and into their A1 hangar where they park their 777s and eat dinner with CO execs and sit next to the Peter Max ship under the Houston city line. I thought this was pretty bad ass gift to win. The highest bid on this went to $12,000 with 100% of proceeds going to Golfers Against Cancer.

Is this standard PR for a carrier? CO was out of pocket for all this. Any commenets are welcome.

I don't know about airlines in general, but a lot of charity work for corporate America is rooted in the corporate culture at that particular company. Some are very focused on their community and charity efforts, others are more focused on simple business bottom lines.

Often they try and use services they can offer easily up for discount or auction to raise money for the charity of choice. This is a perfect example. 4 r/t tix is really a drop in a bucket for most airlines, even ones that struggle. Some goodwill generated by this is worth more than those costs generally. It's a win-win for just about everyone.

I have to agree, that is one bad ass gift.  Big grin

And even though I am not a fan of CO, I must admit that they are a very good corporate citizen when it comes to charities. You always hear about them donating transportation to people in need who are desparate. They have contributed most generously to the restoration project at HOU, and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts!

Every corporation does charity. Co will be able to write this off on taxes.
