Reading another thread got me thinking...what's the wierdest call (or email) you've ever gotten from an airline?
Mine was when I got back to the office after my trip with United... I had a voicemail waiting: "Hello, As always, we'd like to thank you for flying United."
Short, sweet and to the point, really a nice touch, but I still found it a bit strange...

A couple of years back I got a call from bmi informing me that the departure of the flight I was booked on had changed. The new departure time was a full 5mins earlier than originally scheduled. I suppose they did the professional thing to inform me and well done to that. But was it really necessary?

Here is a good one:
Back in December 1990, I was scheduled to fly SEA-ORD on United and then ORD-FRA Lufthansa. As often happens in December, SEA was fogged in and my flight got canceled. I was rebooked on the SAS SEA-CPH flight. After waiting a while, this too was canceled. I went back to the United counter and managed to get on a SEA-ORD flight that actually happened, as the fog had lifted a little. I arrived in Chicago too late to get a flight to Europe. Stranded in Chicago for the night, I took a cab to my sister's apartment, where I crashed. At 3am, the phone rang and my sister answered it. Someone asked for me and after I got on the line, a woman said "This is Helga calling from SAS. Where are you? Your flight is leaving from Seattle and we can't find you! It is in considerate for you to leave and not tell us where you are! We have delayed the flight because of you!" I told her that the flight had been canceled and after denying this, she lit into me again. I finally hung up on her. The next morning, I went out to ORD and got a seat on a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt. Before boarding, I went over to the SAS desk and asked if the SAS flight had ever left Seattle. The guy looked it up on the computer and told me that it had been canceled. I later found out that Helga had first called for me at my home in Seattle and my wife had given her my sister's number in Chicago. After I got home, I called the SAS office in Seattle and was told that there was no one by the name of Helga that worked there. Strange...

I once recieved a call from United about a flight from SAN-DEN. It was very short and odd too. All the person said was "How was your last flight from SAN-DEN" I replied fine, ok thank you and they hung up.

I was called many times almost every week from this person at Expressjet at IAH, they kept asking about a position and constantly went by the same name, even different person called, but used same name and asked for my SSN pertaining to a job opening at Expressjet! thats not right? I never answered them, it was always on my machine when I got home and also my friend picked up several times before when I was out and said it was Expressjet again and again. who must this "Rene" be? man or woman? cant figure it out since it was different voices each time.

i don't know about that, but we keep getting wierd phone calls at one of the extensions in our ops office. someone keeps thinking it's someone's home phone, no matter how many times we tell them.
speaking of phone calls at airlines, why do so many people call, then ask: "hi, who's this?" when i get those kind of calls, i either hang up or give them an earful about knowing who they're calling. i guss that's why all our phone numbers are not to be given out...

I once got a phone call from Lufthansa asking me why I wasn't flying with them and if I wanted a free upgrade to Business class if I would choose to fly with them. I got the phone call just as I was checking in for my British Airways flight. But I stuck with British Airways for that flight and then they gave a free upgrade! How sweet is that?

I got a call from LH last Sunday (while in a hotel on a business trip). They asked me for my company's VAT number. I had asked LH to send some invoices, and asked to call my office the next day, as on Monday it would be open again. They never called back! But apparently the invoices are on the way....

I got a call from jetBlue reminding me that my return flight from SEA-JFK left at 1am and to arrive at the airport the night before. As it turns out they left this message on my home phone in Connecticut and sure enough I mixed up the dates and originally missed my flight, but was able to rebook the following day and they waived the change fee.

Lufthansa used to send me SMS' to inform me about my gate at the day of my departure, quite useless because the same gate number was already printed on the boarding pass I was holding.
