Hey folks,
I live in Santa Rosa and am going to visit a good friend who is a trucker who is making a delivery to South SF...just north of SFO. I was wondering if there were any good places to eat and maybe do a little spotting in that area. Cheap to Mid price range preferably.
Cheers

Whever I got on business to San Fran. I always stay at one of the airport hotels in Burlingame. There's a little park there with benches, etc. overlooking the water, and people sit there (including me) and spot as the planes come in for a landing.
Nice place to be. IT's about 5 minutes from the airport.

That is a great spot to "spot" (pardon the pun) but it is south of the airport and you are going to be north. Just a heads up.
There are many businesses that sell food across 101, on the Broadway exit. Get your food, drive across the freeway, behind the Crowne Plaza hotel and into the area described above, somewhere around the Marriott hotel.

Elephant Bar! There are great views of arrivals with bayside seating and the food is fantastic! You can go mid to high in price, but if you go for lunch you'll save a little on the bill.
Click the link and it'll take you to Elephant Bar's location's page. The top center offering, the one in Burlingame on the Old Bayshore Highway, is the one I speek of. Click on it and it'll give you a map.

Thanks for the info, looking at the prices they aren't too bad compared to most places up here in wine country. 'Moderate' here is like 15-20 bucks a dinner plate.
Cheers

I remember when I have check-in training at SFO back in 93. I don't remember what hotel I stayed out. I do remember eating at El Torito, that is right on the bay. I don't know if it's still there.

I ate at the El Torito a few months ago. Ask for a seat by the window, and you can watch the aircraft on short final to the 28s. I think I could see the departures as well.

El Torito & the Elephant Bar are right beside each other.
If you're back in a few weeks there is an In n' Out opening at the junction of Millbrae Avenue and hwy 101. Too bad there is no view from this burger joint but would make a nice cheap alternative to the above restaurants.

Psssst, right now there is a military version of the 757 (don't know what it's called - #001 I believe) parked by the Superbay. Does anyone know who is in town?

the best place to spot @ SFO is at BayShore Park.......it is literally 100 ft. away from RWY-1R!!!
Get off on Millbrae East to Bayshore Highway. On the right side will be the Westin Hotel, and about a block down, there is the Marriott (SFO Airport Marriott) there is a small parking lot on the left side which is connected to the Marriott parking lot.
From there you can see the 28's and if you walk over to the bridge, you will get to the 1's and parking is free at the lot (but there aren't room for too many cars, but people are always coming and going).

Hey everyone,
Just got back from the city and I ended up going to the Elephant bar around 8PM Sat Night. It was quite hopping, they said an hour wait for 2, actually only took about 30 mins...went out side and watched a few departures and luck was with us. We got the corner window seat facing the airport. After a big black n tan and a nice steak and watching the line up of landing lights. Quite a nice evening with a good friend I hadn't seen in a while. Yesterday spent some time around the city. Apparently Cheney was in town so that may be the reason for the special 757.
Anyway thanks for the info everyone and another friend may be comming later so I will remember the good places.
THanks
TJ
