There was no fire involved. An engine failed, as they occasionally do, and the aircraft was re-routed to Orlando.

I was on that flight and although engine failure may seem routine to pilots who are trained in the sim to deal with it, there was nothing routine about what was going on in the cabin when it happened. And due to what we saw, felt and heard, the crew and passengers may have had a different perspective.

1) It happend at 30 some thousand feet in the air, during cruise and we were about 50 mins from CUN.

2) What happend in the cabin? ( noise sort of like a boom ) What did we see outside in the dark sky coming out of the right engine? ( white flashes and hundreds of sparks ) What did we hear? ( sort of a wind down and over the wing was a loud grinding, but this was normal in such an incident ) and what did we think when we felt the immediate descent? Something is wrong!!!!!

3) On order of the pilots we prepared cabin and passengers for an emergency landing. Aircraft landed safely thank god, but this does not discredit that it was abnormal and not a '' simple'' diversion.

Thanks to the pilots and our crew
