Why No Dc8, But 707 And Dc6/7?

Why are there no dc8 still around but 707 and the older dc6/7. this is a thing i can't understand.

Ummm... actually there are hundreds of DC-8s still around, as freighters. UPS has a fleet of them, so does Burlington Air express. Check out the DC-8 in the photo database. You'll see many that are currently flying.

Uhh, UPS, Emery and a few other freight operators in the US still use DC-8s. The is only a very small number of 707s left in the US that the USAF or US Navy don't own. Now, outside of museums, junkyards, and Alaska, I haven't see a DC-6/7 fly in a LONG TIME in the states.

According to Boeing over 300 (of the 554 manufactured) DC-8s of various models were still in service at the end of 1998. Since then I'm sure there have been a few retirements and accidents but the 300 number should be fairly good. Many of these a/c are US registered and operated as opposed to the mainly foreign owned/ operated remaining 707s. There are significantly fewer 707s still in revenue service, not counting the military examples that many of the world's air forces operate as tankers, transports and electronic warefare/ surveylance a/c.

According to my count (and someone can feel free to correct me) there are approx 115 US registered DC-6s still on the books with more outside the US. Of this number it is anybody's guess how many still fly, my guess would be 60-70 ?? There are many still in regular cargo service in Alaska, the Carribbean (out of Miami), Detroit-Willow Run and as fire bombers in the West.

As the photo above shows, alot of DC8's have been re engined with high bypass turbo fans. The reason the freight companies love em is price and that they are reputed to be a much stronger airframe than a 707 and can carry a better payload, BUT where as the 8's have been so popular up till now for freight, the DC10 is taking over as the payload is reported to be 100% better and DC10's are becoming cheaper as 767's and 777's are more in favour (airline wise) mostly due to the fact they have 2 engines and much cheaper to run fuel wise, not to mention 2 crew cockpits. Plus in favour for the DC10 as a freighter is the fact that it has only 3 engines to feed against the 8's 4 engines. All fine aircraft in their time

What i meant was why no pax dc8 are flying. i know that atleast some 707 still i around in pax config
