Specialist tour operator, The Gambia Experience will offer flights from East Midlands Airport for Winter 2005/06 - the first time flights to the West African country have been available from the Midlands.

The daytime flights will operate every Friday during the winter season, November to April, with Astraeus Airlines.

This is excellent news, add to this First Choice's new offerings on Long-Haul, and you have got a great Long-Haul profile from East Midlands.

Cheers, Ryan

Excellent. Looking forward to seeing the new 767 at EMA over the summer and hope they come back next year.

Probably a 737-700 as said, perhaps via BRS or from MAN-EMA-Banjul-EMA-MAN

MAN-EMA-Banjul-EMA-MAN

That would be one intresting flight for those going to Manchester. Low level flying over the pennines.

Mmm . This route to seems to be a hit and miss from the regions. GLA/BRS route to Banjul pulled due to low numbers. Think BRS route now routes via another UK airport.

Two or three long haul flights a week? I'd hardly call that great. Good news none the less.

If I remember correctly, it was 5W251/252 MAN-BRS-BJL-BRS-MAN in place of the GLA-BRS-BJL-BRS-GLA service from the previous winter.

When I originally posted this , I was supposed to have put a great expanding Long-Haul project.

I still think its great news for an Airport which hasn't really had any news like this few a long time.

EMA has its fair share of long-haul flights, unfortunately they are all mostly freight.

Lufthansa MD11's
Kalittia 74-2's
Gemini MD11's
e.t.c.

Good news for East Midlands. Wonder if they've won the service over BHX for cost reasons? Its hardly a secret that FCA ran down the road because BHX weren't so keen on doing a deal.

That said, the FCA flights from EMA are doing pretty well, so hopefully this Banjul flight can do the same, and EMA can prove itself as a realistic option for Midland long haul routes.

It's great for a regional airport. Shows that UK regional airports can attract long haul flights as well as London
