Hi,

I was checking for flights between Germany and Italy this July and found Germanwings to be consistently the chepeast option both one these and many other routes. For instace, it is cheper to fly FCO-STR than CIA-HAN on Ryanair. Both FCO and STR are major airports while CIA/HAN being secondary airports dominated by LCCs. So how are Germanwings in terms of service/quality/OTP? They use ex-LH A319 which seem to be in a good shape. Is there something wrong with them? If not, why are they so cheap?

Definaltely not always!

I did fly on them twice (and booked a third but had to cancel) for very cheap fares (75 euros return from Cologne to Thessaloniki incl.) and to Rome for around the same amount. Now that is very cheap.

However, I've been trying to book another one to Thessaloniki since months now and I'll need to pay around 175 EXCL. taxes. Now that's not really cheap to me...

I did find them a very reliable and professional airline!

I found STR-FCO for 20 euros + 13 eros tax. Sounds really cheap to me. I saw they got some intra-Germany flights for less than 10 eusros excl taxes.

in any way Germanywings is a good and professional airline, much ahead of Ryanair or that sort of airlines.

It all depends how quick and flexible you are with your bookings. I've tried getting the 19 euro ticket from CGN to IST, but no luck. I know a few people they got it.

You might also want to take a look at Hapag Lloyd Express, www.hlx.com.

Not to be too picky here, but HAN is Hanoi... the one you probably meant is HHN, or Hahn (the airport mistakenly advertised by itself as Frankfurt-Hahn).

From experience i'd much rather fly 4U than FR, they fly to the proper airports, onboard service is very good and prices are very competitive.

Germanwings are a very good airline, I would put them at a par with any of the "full-cost" airlines, better than most. Leather seats, decent pitch and to top it all off a very good livery! We even got given a complimentary chocolate each on leaving the plane - a small touch but it really goes a long way

We flew STN-CGN-STN for £13 each including taxes!  Wow! It was not long after they started operations, but I think they charge a lot more now.

Germanwings is definitely not always the cheapest, but from my experience on many low cost carriers I would rate it one of the best so far. I don't need a 1 EUR fare like on FR if I can be treated in a decent way for just a few Euros more.

@ Frank: Are you really sure that Ryanair is nor marketing Hanoi as Frankfurt-East?  Wink

Cheers,
Tom

I would be worried if 4U's fares are continally very low, especially a few days before departure. However, they are, needless to say, good for the consumer.
