Long Haul First? Jet Or Air Sahara?

what's the latest with the long haul/widebody ambitions of these two carriers?

have either of them finalised aircraft, and if so, what is the delivery schedule [i had read that a deal for 3 A340's from SAA had fallen thru?]

Also, where are the aircraft likely to go? apart from London, is it likely that either carrier would operate to Australia?

Jet will be the first longhaul operator. They plan to launch Singapore flights during April 2005 itself and longhaul to the UK towards the end of May/early June. They plan to add 3 weekly US services via Paris in the Winter.

Sahara is behind the curve slightly but will also be launching Kuala Lumpur and Singapore flights during April-May.

I've heard of 9Ws plan for 3 SAA A340s.
Yesterday there was Talk of S2 considering A340s too.

It is interesting that both carriers are chosing to go head on with AI as well as many other UK/Europe carriers into those markets.

are the USA/UK/France - India markets are lot bigger than Australia?

I would have thought that both carriers would have considered Oz services...

I'm not sure, there must be some though as QF operates a non-stop SYD-BOM route with the 747-300!

Have any of the Indian airlines (except AI) got any long haul aircraft yet?

This is slightly off track but a few days ago in the Indian Express a very highly respected financial journalist called Sucheta Dalal who also drops in on cnbc had this to say in an article. She clearly spoke of the sahara group without mentioning them in person and the basic jist of it was that they are in financial trouble. The head honcho who is a very high profile figure hasnt been seen in public in 3 months and is believed to be suffering from deep depression and as per her even heads of other companies within the group havent seen him recently. The RBI has prepared a detailed report on their shady dealings but the govt is sitting on it as the govts of 3 states could be jeopardised if it was released. Film producers who are funded by the group are complaining that funds have been drying up recently.She concluded by saying that the future of the group rests on the health of their boss but she clearly wasnt impressed by the future of the sahara group as a whole. PS : 5 sahara 737 captains recently quit the airline for AIX as they were fed up by the work culture at sahara more are rumored to follow.

I wonder if this is true, but if it is, I'm not really surprised and I wish the govt would move forward with the report, so putting an end to the empire sooner than later.

They operate on third april to SIN departing BOM at 11pm and arriving SIN at 7am the following morning,
S2 starts DEL-SIN services from around 10th may ,

Both carriers have amazing low fares---9W-INR 14,000
S2-INR 10,000

Whereas SQ is around the 18,000 INR

9W4501 BOM 2250 SIN 0655 - Daily

9W4502 SIN 1825 BOM 2110 - Daily

It looks like that the a/c will remain at SIN for almost 12 hrs. Good for the spotters at SIN.

Interesting.. I thought AIX has low wages.. moreover, this comes as a surprise as there was an article in the TOI yesterday citing Patel that head-hunting of pilots should be ceased..

Rocketman, I am not surprised that the more competitive the environment is, the cheaper the fares get, the lass the returns are and the more difficult it is to sustain on the market.. though I would be surprised if S2 will be a victim.. but the LCC boom in India will reshuffle the market signifuicantly

They way they are spending on the Reconstruction of the Ex Centaur Hotel at The Airport speaks a different story.
VT-HSS was seen at Mumbai last month.

About poaching I'm not surprised,its bound to increase in the next few months.Money rules  Smile

If you noticed Mr. Patel just said carriers should not 'poach' staff of government airlines, he didnt say anything about the private guy  Smile O politicians.......

There are rumours which i heard on anet that it's unlikely for 9W to start USA operations in 2005? Let's hope they get their planes

Even the Hangar path to the Airport needs to be cleared of the Newly sprung up slums.  Smile

HHHMMM??? that is very poor aircraft utlisation. they could almost operate the sector double daily with that sort of schedule. I wonder what the thinking was behind that??

Perhaps planning an extra sector in between??

BOM-SIN-MAA/BLR/CCU-SIN-BOM perhaps???
