From two independent sources I got the information that a Santiago based University chartered the B722 for some sort of "study travels" in the middle east (Jordan, UAE, ...).
That's why the plane was heading to AMM ... the passing through Alicante obviously has to do with range and fuel

For what it's worth, the latest edition of AvNews Latin America, which I just received, said Salvador Saniley, who controls 50%, is putting his stake up for sale and stepping aside. The potential purchaser of his share, no names, plans to wet-lease a Miami Air 737-800 to supplement the sole 727-200, which, according to this article, has been operating some charter to Brazil.
