"If it ain't broke, why fix it"? That old familar quote could well be applied to Delta Air Lines ridiculous choice in a new livery design and fading out the famous older colors.
I hope Johan starts a new poll as to whether or not we like Delta Air Lines new livery, I for one would vote no. I think first of all there was no need to change the nice traditional old colors to the "temporary ones" if you would like to call that to the one just displayed last Wednesday.
At least it is nice to see some of the older 727's, 757's, and L-1011's with the old original colors.
This livery change was worse than US Air changing not only their colors but there name as well!! I'm sure there will be some disagreement with me but at least I for one wanted to issue my displeasure with Delta's decision.

I don't like it, they should leave the current livery alone, the new livery lacks the Delta logo on the tail, and on the side, the Airlines part is now gone which leaves only the name Delta with an all white fuselage.

I like the new livery, once you get over the fact that it is different. That may be what DL wanted.look at most liveries of US carriers, thier logo or name is blended into a wash of dark colors or designs. On the new DL livery the logo(widget)and name is clear and very visable.
The tail is very unique, will most deffinetly stand out in a crowd.Got to give DL credit for trying something new!

Get over it!!!!
I just left Hartsfield. Delta planes all over the place. The planes in the old color look like crap! They are faded and dirty which makes them look old worn and broken down.
I think the new colors are a HUGE improvement over that. I can't wait to take a ride on a plane painted in the new, and I think much improved, Color Scheme. Come on....It's a new progressive image for the company.

Looks to me like Delta is trying to cut costs by using as little paint on their aircraft as possible. Less paint means less weight as well, doesn't it? So in the long run, the new livery will increase fuel economy and save the airline a bit of cash.
As for the look...could it be more boring? Two thumbs down. Aeroflot shows more imagination.

All white schemes (particularly in the belly of the fuselage area) seems to be the growing trend these days. Look at carriers like Lufthansa, Virgin, and others who have gotten rid of that paint line (normally covering the windows) and made it a solid white throughout.
The airlines probably took their cue from the US space agency NASA. NASA found out that not painting the external fuel tank of the Space Shuttle not only saved money but also lessened the weight of the entire craft. Which is why only a few of the first couple of launches back in the early 1980's showed a white fuel tank. Now it is a rust color.

I agree. The new Delta scheme is one of the ugliest paint schemes in the skies. They should have kept the original scheme that they had for some 20 years. The planners of Delta's aircraft schemes need to:
GET A CLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, first of all I think they didn't need a new livery. The current one was acceptable if slightly boring. Second, do these companies think that changing liveries will bring more business, REALLY!?! Third, Delta still has not even caught up with last livery change, I still see the livery from the 80's. Three liveries makes for such a mis-matched fleet. BY THE WAY I'M A MAJOR DELTA FAN!!!

Hey Fast, you hit the nail right on the head! Despite my intense dislike for the new Delta livery I am still a fan of Delta although as I alluded to another post, their service has slipped a bit over the years.
As Fast mentioned, changing an airliners livery isn't necessarily going to increase business (look at US Airways).
What matters is service, being on time, and safety. Delta (for the most part) has been able to do this although the service has to improve. Just changing the livery isn't going to change service, except maybe the wallets of the those that paint the airplanes!!!

I personally would prefer the current scheme, it looks a lot nicer than the old one, and the new scheme is to plain. The missing logo on the tail makes the plane look terrible. The current scheme is cool, leave it be Delta!!
