I apologize if this was posted before...

On Tuesday around 11am I saw a BIG puff of purple smoke rise up in between the tower and taxiway RB (the taxiway headed to Rwy 8R)

Any idea what the smoke was caused by or what is was for?

Purple smoke? Maybe an LZ smoke grenade?

I was in the area that day, but don't recall seeing anything like that.

I don't know about purple smoke, but HNL ARFF does conduct drills near their 2nd ARFF station on the south ramp. This involves buring fuel and causes a huge black smoke plume. I guess if you are looking from the Ewa side it will look like it is between RB and the tower.

Where Ha763 is talking about is exactly where the smoke was coming from. But I swear it was bright purple!

At first I thought it was the Fire Department conducting one of their drills but its weird with the purple smoke. ??

Thanks for the replies though.
