Hey Everyone,

I've just returned from the best holiday to new zealand (ex MEL) on EK. The flight was excellent and thier IFE was the best ive ever seen! I was on the A340-500 in Economy on the way over then had the luxury of being upgraded to Business class on the return leg.. the best 3.5 hours of my life! Just a quick question, has everyone else noticed the awesome range of entertainment avialable on EK's IFE, and, do they have the same system on their 777's as the 345's? If not, which is better?

Cheers
Rushed

(still got a Massive smile on my face 3 days after my flight)

Nope Sad Usual video on 2.5 hour rotation, maybe a dozen channels. Still, it's good having the nosecams though!

But I think the older fleets will be retrofitted eventually. So far I've only seen it on the 345. All others at least have videoplayers in F and C.

Thats a shame that its only on the 345's as this system really makes the flight time fly by (excuse the pun). So what routes do they use the 345's on. I know they use it on the Dubai-Melb-Christchurch sector. what other sectors do they use it on? Can i get from Australian-Europe only using the 345?

Cheers Rushed!

On the UK<>Dubai routes they only use the 330s and 777s. Not sure about other European destinations.

Edit: Looks like Frankfurt is the only route for the 343 in Europe, from randomly browsing their schedules.

It's up to everyone's own personal view to judge what is important in life or not. Some people pray all day, others enjoy killing others and find it the greatest thing in life. So better don't argue about or judge subjective feelings of others.  sarcastic

Back to topic, I think EK's IFE on the A345 is the most advanced currently available. Would be great to see it being installed on the rest of the fleet.

Udo

I had the pleasure of sampling EK's A345 AVOD IFE called 'ICE' during my trip to Australia. The system reminded me of Vigin's V:Port which is almost identical in terms of operations and system layouts.

Last summer I travelled on EK 773 and that do not have AVOD IFE but it seems that EK are trying to introduce it throughout their fleet.

I think the A345 also operates DXB-SYD.

ICE system is available on A340-500 and B777-300ER aircraft, along with a few select B777-200 which had the defunct GMIC system and have now been fitted out with ICE i.e. the BHX flight mentioned above.

A340-500 only fly to ZRH within Europe, although once more 777-300ER's are delivered i hear they will be deployed to MAN, GLA & DUS to name just a few european destinations.

ICE is the best inflight entertainment system I have ever come across. It's got over 500 TV channels, which are all played from start on demand. There's also a choice of some 5,000 CD tracks and loads of games. ICE stands for Information, Communications & Entertainment. And a new first for EK is that you can also check your emails with ICE!

ICE system is on the following aircrafts:

A345 A6-ERA
A345 A6-ERB
A345 A6-ERC
A345 A6-ERD
A345 A6-ERE
A345 A6-ERF
A345 A6-ERG
A345 A6-ERH
B772 A6-EMD
B772 A6-EME
B772 A6-EMF
B773ER A6-EBA
B773ER A6-EBB

In the next 2 to 3 months the remaining 6 777-200's will be reconfigured with more comfortable seats and the ICE system. All newly delivered aircraft will also be equipped with ICE. I don't know if the 'older' 777-300's or A330's will be reconfigured.

Got a question for all you EK frequent fliers- on the EK booking system, one of the flights I intend booking for this Dec. lists the A/C type as B77W? Is this the ER or regular 773? Hopefully it's the 773ER Big grin

EKcrew, I believe there is a total of 500 channels of which about 100 are TV channels, the rest is Audio. Plus Info, Games etc.

When I flew A6-ERE (EK413) last October AKL(SYD)DXB (Business class) I was also highly impressed about the ICE system. The 19 hour flight didn't feel long at all with all the movies, TV, music ICE has to offer. Part of the 6 hour sleep, I was entertained by the ICE in a way or another. The best bit is that if in the middle of a movie you need to go to the lavatory you just pause the movie and continue when you are back Big grin

Truly amazing system!

Business class on the 345 was an awesome experience.. my 3.5 hour flight from christchurch to melb was filled with the meal.. 3 hours of eating.. id imagine a 15hr flight would fly by.. 2 meals =6hrs.. then 9 hours of movies.. easy!
