Um, I am not sure what you are talking about...
but, the DC-10s are slowly being replaced with 767's.
737 fo's move to the right seat in the 767 (constant retirements) and then DC-10 so's (flight engineers) move into the right seat of the 737-200.
It is all relative, nobody is losing there jobs, if that it what you are getting at. The pilots are guaranteed a certain amount of hours per month anyways. So even is there was no flying, due to a lack of aircraft, they still get paid.
