Silver Air, a new airline to be based at Dubai, is to take delivery of a Boeing 737-200 which was previously operated by Saudi Arabian as SAT Sakhalin Airlines (Russian Federation)">HZ-AGK.

Does anyone know anything about this airline or its future plans???

Take a really narrow body airplane and then try to compete with Emirates... does not sound like a great idea, unless they are going somewhere Emirates isn't.

If you look on the front page under banner news they have got pics of their 737-200 (quite a smart c/s). Apparently they are registered in Djibouti so this may be their principle destination. I don't think Emirates fly there yet.

If they do, and things are going good after some time, Emirates will buy them anyway  Smile

Morvious,

I think what is more likely to happen is just that Emirates will begin to compete on their routes and force them to close. They won't need to buy them. This could end up being like another OzJet v QANTAS situation.

Alternatively, Silver Air is using Dubai for tax reasons. Just a thought

I totally agree with you RICARDOAB.

Silver Air will never affect EK's operations, instead it will be affected by Emirates. However, as you said Silver Air have choosen Dubai mainly for tax incentives.
