Is it just me, or does that tail look extremely low to the ground? It seems that until the rear wheels leave the ground it will takeoff at a very low angle.

I have to say, with the other aircraft in the background it looks HUGE! This is one aircraft that will certainly dominate the ramp - wherever it visits.
I can't believe there are talks of stretching it too - it's going to be massive.
I also thought the tail looked rather low but agree with Aither that it's an optical effect.

I agree it is going to be big. I cant wait to see its test flight and cant wait to fly on it aswell.

WOW that thing is amazing, it really dwarfs the A346 in the background...
You can really see how much space they lost in the upper deck but not having it extend all the way to the front... It looks to be about 9 rows less than the bottom level, with a 2-2-2 or 2-3-2 up top that loses about 54-63 seats??

You're right. It would have looked better with a 747-style hump. Oh well...
But when I look at this plane in every photo, it doesn't seem that big to me. Perhaps it's the stunted length. I look forward to the stretch version. Anybody have a link to an illustration of the stretched version?
An optimist robs himself of the joy of being pleasantly surprised
At least it shows how much better the A380 colors compare to the yuckly old Airbus colors on that -600 in the background! Now that<'s/i> an improvement.

Good point, but keep in mind the landing gear is like 18ft tall!! But I would suspect that as well as a bit of an illusion, this bird probably doesn't rotate too quick for a tail-strike to become an issue...Err I hope
The test team must be really eager now to fire this bird up and shake some buildings!!!

I think its a matter of scale, of seeing it near to something you are used to seeing. I saw an AN-124 on the ramp at PHL and thought it wasn't so big. When I saw one land at BNA, on a runway I see all the time, I was awe struck. When the gear struck the runway it sounded like someone dropped an eighteen wheeler from forty feet and I was on the other side of the airport. As it taxied over to the ramp near me I could only think "nothing this big is supposed to fly".

It seems to me that everyone at Airbus is just happy enough marveling at this plane on the ground and don't want to dirty it by flying it! Look at the row of people standing at the fence watching it. It's almost as if they don't want to take they're nice shiny new plane out of the garage!
BTW, I think the cones are actually a similar colour to the A345 and A346, those are just orange covers used to protect to engine exhaust area.

i think there scared of getting it back on the ground, and what ay happen when that huge weight slams down on a runway. there doesn't look like a lot of room between the rear of the plane and the ground, easy tailstrike material?

40 DAYflyer: It's still one big, ugly airplane. Although the Euro-white certainly is an improvement over the green unpainted version.

63 Shamrock350: Are those two models the same scale? The A380 is ment to dwarf the 747 I cant wait to see the two aircraft side by side in an airport.
64 Leelaw: No. The 744 = 1/400, & the A380 = 1/500. I have 1/400 models of both aircraft; while the A388 doesn't exactly dwarf the 744, the additional "girth" o
