Today 7 Apr 04, THAI's Boeing 747-400 painted in new livery was revealed at Bangkok Don Muang International Airport. The aircraft is registered HS-TGJ, formerly wearing the Royal Barge paint scheme.

I think the new colours look awful and cheap.
Their previous livery was timeless. They went down the wrong route by applying a new design. They should have worked with what they already had by enhancing it.
The aircraft looks bare at the front and heavy at the back.

I said it then, and now there's proof. This new scheme would look like crap on the 744, and it does..
Whats up with that generic font.. yuck. This 744 is too white especially with that big forehed doesn't look right. They have to move that purple forward. I have the feeling it won't be long before this scheme is altered if not changed completely.
I guess the 'genius' who designed this was only thinking about the A345...
The ideal thing Thai should have gone for was an UPDATE of the old scheme. Besides somewhat boring, this is an un-balanced design. If it wasn't for the purple color, this would be just another cheap euro-white livery.

Are their any planes still with the Royal Barge paint scheme ?

When I first saw this livery I thought it was a joke. There's nothing wrong on the current one and this one doesn't earn to serve TG, too cheap in my opinion. I really hope they will change their mind.

HS-TGO "Bowonrangsi' is still wearing the Royal Barge scheme, however. Heard that HS-TGN is next to be painted. I personally hope they would reconsider keeping the old livery...simply timeless...

Not cool.. it looks like some charter airliner that's bound to go bankrupt, not like the classic Thai livery that was so elegant and classy. Hopefully they'll rethink this, although i doubt it..too bad.

I think it looks good the big Airbusses they are getting soon, but on a 747? Nahh... Please paint them all in the Royal Barge scheme, that would be nicer for sure...

Was there two Thai Boat B747-400s? I thought that HS-TGO also had the Thai Boat livery applied to it. I saw HS-TGO at CDG on the 31st of March and TS-TGJ at MAD on April 2. (it was still in Thai Boat livery)

What's even more revolting is that this aircraft formerly wore the Royal Barge scheme.

It's sad. It seems like the days of the cheat line are limited. I always thought that TG has (had) one of the better livery (esp. the barge). But I guess they too have now gone towards Eurowhite.
I hope AI never changes their livery to this style. I would then be thoroughly disgusted.

25 Amy: That looks awful. I'm sorry to see Thai move in this direction and I hope they will see sense, though I think that is unlikely.
26 NA: I´m underwhelmed and agree the new livery fits better to the A345. Especially the grey engines look odd and out of place on the 744, almost as if its
27 RAMPRAT980: Nice colors. Better than what they have now.
28 A340600: What a horrible livery on the Boeing 747, please TG, change it back! Sam
29 Dutch122: Holy Cow, repaint them back. This is just disgusting. Dutch122
30 A388: I like the new livery, even though I have to say that I expected a different 'appeal' on the 744. As soon as more photos are on the internet it will l
31 N766UA: The back 1/5th of the airplane is ok....
32 Amhilde: ohher not keen on this at ALL. I agree with whomever said it looked "heavy" in the back because it does. There isnt any balance at all to the scheme.
33 AR1300: Purple only looks fine on Fedex...Yuck!! Mike
34 Galapagapop: Very Ugly indeed, bring back the old one with the classy cheatline, one of the main reasons I like AA, cheatlines rule!
36 B767400ER: I like the new color scheme!! I believe it's a fresh updating to Thai's old livery. (which was fine as well) My only suggestion would have been to kee
37 Braybuddy: The old livery looked dated and needed to be changed, but they missed the boat by not going for this scheme on Mdified Airliner Photos
38 FCKC: Surely these new color schemes will be nicier on small planes , such as the ATRs , thus avoiding to have too much white. Not really nice on a 744.Too
39 DID747: I think these new colors are Ok for the MD11 but realy bad on the 747. DID747
40 Dsa: I like the new scheme and it looks quite wonderful on the 747
41 G-CIVP: Got to say, the now 'old' Thai scheme was a classic a la Air India. This said, I recognise change.
42 A388: I think that purple engines would make a lot of difference and take the attention off the all-white fuselage. Now that I look at the livery more close
43 RJ111: It makes it look a little like a 747SP-SUD.
44 Aerokiwi: Wow it looks really terrible on the 744. Maybe it's because of the picture quality but it doesn't look anywhere near as crisp and fresh as the old one
45 PITA333: I'm not a fan of the new scheme, but I do think its an upgrade from the old one.
46 Propulsion: Looks nasty, as I thought it would. A terrible shame and wasted opportunity to build upon the beauty of the previous livery.
47 Thunderbird1: This is beyond ugly. I didn't like it on the A340; it looks much much worse on the 747. Keep the old livery! There's still time....
48 MIAMIx707: Sure buddy, throws tomato @ Leskova Funny to hear so many were saying oh that's great!.. and now they don't like it.. An airplane's paintscheme needs

52 Blackbird1: Thanks for sharing! Nice tail, boring front. I guess the future TG A380 will look even worse......
53 Luftaom: Nice update, but it would in my opinion be enhanced by the painting of the engines in the same rich purple colour as appears on the tail.
54 Malaysia: Everyone, forget Thai Airways, we should just start rooting for how the PB colors looked so good on a wide body
55 UAalltheway: Wow.. the TG livery on the 747-400 looks absolutely GREAT!
56 MIAMIx707: Except for that tacky yellow engine, I agree that scheme is a beauty, again mostly for the colors used. By the way the fantasy livery on reply 37 woul

66 Lufthansa747: TGJ looks pretty nice in person. Flew on the first comemrcial flight of the 345 to HKT this morning - the interior is very nice.
67 Lufthansa747: Why on the earth are they leaving the old seats in Y class? Those seats in the above link are the old old Recaro Y seats with no PTV or even winged he
68 Star_member: yes i was surprised to see the old Y seats in the refurbished 747-400 also. i thought they were introducing new seating and ptv in all economy cabins.
