I was due to have an interview with Etihad Airways this week for Passenger Service at YYZ for Etihads new YYZ service service this summer but was told all interviews were cancelled because Etihad had lost the contract to fly to Toronto, and Emirates were set to win the Toronto service, does anyone know anymore of this or have any info on either airlines planned service to YYZ??

Emirates starting a YYZ service is highly contingent on getting rights for a daily service. EK have indicated they can start a 3-4x initially but want reassurance they can increase the service to a daily within 6 months. From what i understand talks were held a month or so ago with Canadian govt. officials to get approval for this daily service.
Another issue is aircraft availability - not much available time left on the A340-500s at the moment. That is unless they take the A345 off the planned 2nd daily PER service (Oct.) and re-allocate acft to a potential YYZ. Then 2nd PER PER may get another type eg. B777-300ER, B777-200ER or A340-300.

And I'm sure eventually, they will upgrade this rout to an A380 as well.. I mean, why not? They'll have Hundreds of them!! Good news for Toronto, and EK... they should make a killing on flights to India and beyond.

Not so fast. My sources say the Canadian government demanded offsetting benefits for such a promised increase in frequencies for EK and that's where the matter stands. I'm not sure what those offsetting benefits might be, but it may involve fifth freedoms that would require Canada first conclude satisfactory arrangements with third countries.
