According to Delta.com, arriving 1:32, departing 2:50....then another arriving 6:38, departing 7:45

Sounds like it might be the same aircraft for both flights.

I don't see it for tommorrow or Monday. Anybody know why?  Confused

Not sure why they are sending it today. I believe the early afternoon flight is normally a 763, with the later flight being a 764. I think Delta's 777s seat more than their 763s, but less than the 764s, so extra capacity isn't necessarily the reason. I fly that route often as most of my family lives in TPA and I travel there for business...I have always hoped for a 777 sub, because I haven't flown on one yet. I am thinking I probably won't have the opportunity unless I have to travel to MCO and happen to catch one of the two Delta flights that uses them.

Don't know why they do it, but they did the same last week to FLL. From looking at the schedules, DL currently has a 777 available that is currently not assigned to a route, which will be used from April 15th on for ATL-MXP. Perhaps they had to sub it for a broken down 767 that would have ATL-TPA-ATL-XYZ, and use the 777 to do the TPA flights, while either the 763 or 764 operates the other flights from ATL.

Perhaps some additional seats to accomodate increased loads due to Spring Break travel?

DL could have sent in a 767-400 instead, since it has more seats than the international 777 in the DL configuration. While the 777 does have more premium seats than the 764, I doubt many spring breakers would be sitting in that section.

Spring Break is pretty much over by this time, especially since Tampa isn't a huge beach market anyway.

Oh let me tell you, this spring break in TPA has been a living hell the past couple months! Record breaking loads out of TPA. Atleast for WN, the other guys seemed slammed as well. You were really lucky if you managed to get a seat out of here without an advanced reservation.
Also we have Clearwater and St.Pete Beach which have been rather large Spring Break destinations.

Well I'll be damned, I didn't think TPA would be as big of a SB destination as some of the other places in Florida.....

TPA gets alot of Gulf Coast pax traffic as well, especially with SRQ's downward spiral in the past few years.

It will be interesting to see how AirTran's arrival at SRQ will ultimately impact TPA, if at all. Fares from SRQ are much more reasonable than in the past, and in some cases, they are even lower than TPA. My parents live in southern St. Petersburg and flew out of SRQ recently to ATL because it was actually cheaper than TPA and the trip to SRQ for them was not that much longer than to TPA. DL used to be a combination of mainline and a few RJs on the ATL-SRQ-ATL, but now the route is all mainline equipment. Either more demand is there or they are trying hard to compete with AirTran which or course is all mainline - probably a combination of both factors IMO.

Remember, "spring break" might be over for the colleges in the mid-atlantic and northeastern states, but for all the kids in grades K-12, "spring vacation" begins this week and next week.

Many flights for next weekend to Florida from BDL/BOS/PVD/MHT/ALB are completely FULL.

I tried getting from BTV-NYC on B6 Apr 14-15. No go.
Trying getting anything NYC-BTV Apr 23-24 is impossible, other than one Y seat on CO I somehow caught and reserved.

What now?

777STL.....I Don't think you have been to St Pete Beach or Madeira Breach or Clearwater Beach. TPA airport serves a HUGE beach market. They are apx 30 to 45 minute drive from TPA airport. I would say spring break loads are reason for the bigger birds. Kinda why NW had a few 757's this year and last in GRR for a couple of week-ends. Even UA had a couple of seven-fives at GRR last spring.
safe
