I'm trying to fill in my log book and need some help with JAX runways for last Friday, April 1. If anyone could tell me which was the active runway for departing evening flights on April 1, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much.

It would help if you remembered a turn in a certain direction after departure, or any specific landmarks......

Shouldn't be too hard, since the only runways at JAX are RWY7-25 and RWY13-31. When you took off, what compass direction were you heading in? If you can't remember, just call JAX Port Authority and get the number to the Tower. The Tower Chief log should have that info available.

It would have to be either 07 or 25, as 13/31 is rarely used for pax flights. To make it simple: If the terminal was on the right side, you took of on 07, if the terminal was on the left, you took of on 25.

If you really have to guess, go with 7. The winds along the Florida coast are usually off the ocean so most aiports usually take off eastward.

If you look at the airports along the east coast of FL, almost everyone has an east-west runway... JAX, DAB, MIA, FLL

I actually have a JAX related question, but not about it's runway -
In the JAX website they mention a Inmigration and Customs facility, Is it on one of the concourses @ the main terminal?
I've the same question on PBI too, where is their Inmigration and Customs?

I don't work for COPA Airlines!

JAX has Customs and Immigration assigned to the airport, but if you are expecting an international flight, such as a diversion, you have to call them to get their butts out there. lol The Customs and Immigrations facility is on C Concourse, at the very end, closest to Continental's gates. I think the "official" international gate is C-10 or 11.

I think he might be referring to a private aircraft flight. But in any case, 13/31 is heavily used for pax flights, by WN and CO. Otherwise, they have to taxi all the way around the terminal to get to the gate and WN pilots are trained to taxi fast for their turnarounds. Have you ever seen a WN plane taxi? Darn thing looks like its about to take off.

Like I said, if you are unsure, call the tower, they can tell you.

Hell yeah, I have also occasionally see a WN 737 overtaking us while rolling for a 07 take-off. One moment you look out the window, the WN plane is behind you, the next moment it is taking off ahead of you.
Still, I have yet to see a pax plane take off from 13/31 (though obviously I'm not there as often as others), but many military jets using it.
And about the international gate, last time I was there (too long ago when JAX had a central security checkpoint), the view of the international gate area was blocked of.
And speaking of security, is JAX back to a central checkpoint, or are those still in the concourses?

Yes, the Florida Air National Guard is located on that side of the runway and there is a dog-leg taxiway from the old Alert hangars from when the FANG used to sit Alert from JAX. They have since moved the Alert to Homestead ARB and the Air Guard Fire Dept has taken over the Alert facilities.

JAX does have a central security checkpoint again, although it took some redesigning of the terminal. You now proceed through the airport towards B Concourse. The checkpoint is located in front of B Concourse and once you pass through, B is straight ahead, a hallway leading to C is off the the left and a hallway leading to A is off to the right. Once inside security there are large windows with near panaramic views of the airport and aircraft operations, but it takes a little longer of a walk to get to A or C concourses. You now no longer have to go through security twice to get from concourse to concourse.

Thanks for the info. Good to see that there is finally a single security checkpoint again. Beats those checkpoints in the concourses, especially the one in A.
Will this be the final layout that will also be included in the new terminal, or will it be changed again?

Thanks for your help. My flight out was the end of a long and disastrous day, and I was too busy wrestling with a tired two year-old to reference my charts, fill in my log, or take note of the landmarks. I'll go with runway 07.
