BA Miami Flights From T3

I've searched the forum for this but can't find anything.

Why does the BA miami flight leave from terminal 3 at LHR? Seems a waste of resources for just one flight?

It is something about the airlines at that terminal have a say about future developments and plans for the terminal, so they just want to be in the loop about what is happening. But will they move the MIA flights to T5?

I wouldn't have thought so because the Miami flight has been in Terminal 3 for years, it isn't a recent move. Maybe there's no space in T1 or T4 at the time BA want.

Richardw is right, it is simply a political matter. BA maintained that one route out if T3 simply to keep the bargaining power the presence in T3 allows. As for as I'm aware however, all services including the Miami service is to move to T5.

Wow that's news to me. Sorry richardw for trying to correct you. LOL So do BA use T2 for a single flight as well for the same purpose?

BA does not have need for T2. T3s importance comes from the fact that it was the longhaul terminal for LHR at one stage.

is there any reason that it is the MIA flight? i thought that MIA was quite high yield so surely you would want it next to your best lounge (concorde lounge in T4???) or at least the T1 one. do MIA pax use the AA lounge or does BA have a T3 lounge especially for this flight. i also would have thought there would be a reasonable number of pax connecting to / from MIA especially given the BA codeshare ops with AA out of it going to the middle east / Europe etc.

Why not somewhere like DEN

BA do not have a lounge in T3 anymore, passengers are directed to the Admirals Club although if you have the right coloured shiny piece of plastic you can go to the new CX lounge.

Not sure why MIA is chosen...

Intrestingly enough, when LHR-MIA was once daily (with a second flight from Gatwick), the Cape Town flight also operated from T3. However, now that the Gatwick-Miami flight has become a second Heathrow-Miami flight, the Cape Town flight was moved back to T4

I think PHL and LOS were once operated from T3 as well...but this is way back in the day...like 1999.

They definitley are a high-yielding service. British Airways maintains a premium Terraces Lounge at MIA that is, by far, the nicest premium lounge of any airline at the airport. Though I have no idea why they use T3...I am assuming the recently started third frequency that operates only during the winter uses T3 too?

Yes. Regardless of frequency, if it's BA and it's to/from MIA it's out of T3. Nonetheless, it's interesting that they go out of there. Also interesting to see BA in a terminal at LHR where they don't dominate (I've never been to T2).

Then you are lucky!! T2 is the worst terminal at heathrow.

Not a single BA flight, only used by european airlines (LH, AZ, IB...)

Its almost claustrophobic in Terminal 2 check in area. The roof is so low! I agree its the worst terminal, and am glad that BA don't use it!
