WOO-Hoo!

Okay it took them four extra months but they finally got over the 200 mark.

Congrats to Korean and Boeing!

Great news for Korean Air and Boeing! Looking forward to these. Any idea on a possible delivery date?

I think these would be 787-8s since the 787-9 isn't officially launched yet.

Great news! I am happy that SkyTeam carriers are also ordering the 787. Too bad that the article does not mention details such as delivery dates, potential routes and whether they will all be -800's or -900's.

Quoting Behramjee (Reply 1):

Why do you think the order is for the -900 type Behramjee? I was under the impression that the -900 was still in an earlier development stage with respect to the -300 and the -800.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Well because these SE Asian carriers always somehow choose big aircraft and with a 217 seating capacity in 3 classes, these airlines would probably find the B 788 a bit too small. Just look at the number of A 333s in SE Asia compared to A 332s!!!

This was one of the "deciding" competitions wasn't it? I think people mentioned KE, QR and EK as being the most "open" competitions that would weigh the two models.

Does anyone know which way QR is leaning?

As far as details go, they are a little sketch at this point. Don't expect -9's. However, either -3's or -8's are both as possibility, as Korean have stated these initial aircraft are intended to begin replacing the A300-600R fleet.

Definitely a significant victory for the 787, as this is the first A330 airline (and a large [19] fleet at that) to have signed on for Boeing's new twin.

Waiting for Boeing's release to see if they state any more details.

Regards,

Perhaps Udo will believe me now that KE is not considering the -3 at this point in time?

I agree, the Dreamliner will look awesome in KE's livery, so let's hope KE does not change it to a boring Eurowhite scheme.

Do the 27 787s for AI and the 10 for Korean represent orders from the 57 Boeing said they had deposits for?

well http://www.justplanes.com have just announced that KEs order for B 787s will indeed be for the -800 version only. But I shall not be surprised in the future to see some options converted into a -300 version for flights to China and around the region (within 5 hour flying distance).

Korean Air has announced an order for up to 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The agreement involves 10 firm aircraft as well as 10 options. The airline picked the 800 version with deliveries scheduled from 2009 to 2013.

This is likely the case with KE. Would AI's management have the autonomy/flexibility to enter into such an agreement without government approval?

Interesting, Boeing sells how many 787's as compared to Airbus and their A380? Seems to me that the ultimate winner of all this may be Boeing after all. The tides seem to be turning on Airbus albeit it will be a few years in the making.

These aircraft certainly represent different visions of how the future marketplace will develop; however, China Southern, and now Korean have ordered both planes.

AI I don't think so at this stage;not official enough yet. KE definitely. I think they have probably been counted as 20(10+10). Of the remaining 37 commitments, my best guess at this stage is 30 for AC and 7 for LOT. But they are just guesses.

Now, I'm not a big fan of the KE livery at all...as a matter of fact I really don't like it very much, only because of the color choices (It's only a personal opinion), but I must say that in the 787 colors, I actually like it quite a bit.
