I flew the new b-class on an A340, EWR-CDG back in December. And then I flew home on a 777 so I could compare. The new one is nice, but not so incredible that it made a huge difference. I was just happy to be in business class at all. The new one has ELEVEN different dials to adjust your seat, but I still couldn't get 100% comfortable to sleep. But that's more me than the seat. Good service on both flights.

Yes and no to your questions ... there are 3 A330s actually in service without first class, i.e. with the new J class seats, they are F-GZCM/CN/CO.
The reason why you can't assume that it has been modified if 1st is not offered is because sometimes the aircraft is "physically" a three class aircraft, but 1st is not open for sale. It happens on the A340s a lot. They forecast a 2-class aircraft on a particular day, but for whatever reason, a 2-class a/c is not available so they send a 3-class aircraft but do not seel first class.

Thanks for your response. I am leaving IAD on 6-20 for Paris on the A330 flight (that is the new 3rd daily AF flight) in business. I have tried to figure out if I am getting the new product or not, but nobody has been able to answer that, including Air France. Your answer, however, clarifies things a bit more.

If I can remember, I can try to look it up for you Thursday. I would tend to think that the A330 on the IAD route would be a 3-class one since IAD really needs to offer the First Class cabin, but hey, anything is possible. I think the reason why AF staff does not want to tell you is because it is not proper customer service if they tell you it will be on aircraft and then it turns out to be another.

I'm flying YUL-CDG-DXB on may 1st. I'm trying the new Business class on the YUL-CDG (AF 347) ... does anyone know if the new Business class seat will be available on the CDG-DXB flight 1300 departure (A330)?

I have flown the 'old' but still very present C class:
i) Product is very "B" grade compared to BA, QF and SQ, etc in terms of seat (not lie-flat; higher density), but still slightly ahead of US carriers
ii) Service is either very good or mediocre
iii) Flights are often full and in this config it can feel like Y class after the above airlines
iv) Looking forward to trying the new J class, but have heard mixed reports, including IFE NEVER works fully on any flights
When all's said and done, there'll be more said than done.
