I have heard that the B777-200X will be the longest range airliner in the world. With a 305 seat configuration, Boeing say the aircraft will have a range of 8,775nm (16,250km). To put it in perspective the MEL-LAX flight is 6,891nm and SIN-LHR is 7,643nm.
Has anyone else heard these proclaimed performance figures?

Check out an article in SeattleTimes.com achives on 777, I think it's Feb.29 2000. It should be a 777-200x with the kind of range you're talking about but 301 pax. The 777-300x will have 359 pax. But just GE engines for both.

Yes, the 777-200X (-200LR?) will be the longest range airliner ever built. At least commercially, as military aircraft have a theoretical limitless range via air-air refueling. The 777 will beat the forthcoming A340-500 by about 500 miles carrying approx. equal payload.
