This is probably a stupid question, but what is the purpose of the folding sections on bulkhead dividers? I've noticed this on a few airlines, but have never actually seen them used for anything. The only reason I could think is to possibly make the coach passengers jealous of those in first or biz class.  Smile

I think that it has to do with privacy for the first abd buesniess class passengers.
For one thing I really like bulk-heads seats you tend to get more room! So I think it's a plus for Y passengers!

I understand what the purpose of the bulkhead is for, but on some airlines there are small cut-outs that fold down. I first noticed this last year while seated in a bulkhead seat on an AA 777. Take a look at the photos. Sorry if I worded my original post wrong.

The sections that fold down are there so that the adjacent overhead bins can be opened. Other sections on the AA bulkhead are fold down 'tables' to carry baby cots (bassinets)

My guess is it satisfies some FAA safety requirement. On UA, they are open during takeoff, landing and on the ground. They are closed during cruise.

The folding hatches are there so flight attendants can have an uninterrupted view of their designated section of the cabin during takeoff and landing, n'est-ce pas?
