Yesterday, around 4:00PM I saw 2 Chinooks fly pretty low into CLE, coming from the east, I would say above Berea road, around there. Thats not something you see around here often, and the president, etc wansnt in town. I know alot of people I go to school saw them also, but none of us could figure out why they were here. I know a few people here work at or around CLE and might know why they were here?

Thanks,
Dan

Interesting. While passing CLE on 480 today (5:50pm or so) I saw the tail of a military cargo jet, looked like a C-17. Maybe something to do with NASA?

I think the President is coming to CLE soon for a visit to a college in Lake county.

If there was a C-17 there it was likely to be carrying the president's limo. If that's the case it means there might be a bloody TFR up tomorrow in which case my plans to fly at 3PM might get shot down......almost literally.

The C-17 is in CLE, and Bush, unfortunately, is slated to be in CLE on Friday the 15th.

Lucky?? I don't know how 'lucky' we are, but he is indeed here. In fact, about 5 minutes ago, ( 1140 ) he left onboard Marine One to head to Lakeland College, followed by an entourage of three Chinooks filled with the press corps. In addition to the five helicopters on the way to the college, we also have two C-17's on the field parked on the old 18/36. One is from McChord and the other Charleston. We also had a Coast Guard Dauphine/ Dolphin doing the runway sweep and N757BJ, a 757 which brought the press corps in. I think that covers it...Oh yeah, AF One (28000)is parked at the IX-Jet Center.

Our tax dollars at work.    I understand the need for security, but come on, a this could buy 100 or more uninsured NE Ohioans health insurance, which I'm sure most would rather have.

What a truly liberal thing for you to suggest. I'm so thankful that 52% of the population gets it.

Glad to hear that! I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek myself, but the sentiment still stands!
Cheers

When I drove back from college at about 3pm, I saw two Chinooks come in and decided to go home the long way and got off at the Berea Freeway. I pulled into Cargo Dr., past several police and other security, and parked a little at the post office. I have to give kudos to the great security they had, not jumping on the few spotters that had gathered. They even let a mother and her young son (I presume) approach the fence to view, while others took pictures. Stupid me forgot to bring a camera, so I watched Marine 1 and its twin return, and I left as a had some errands to run.

Hmm, I seem to remember when President Clinton came to town he shut down the entire interstate when he had the unannounced urge to go eat a pierogi - costing local police forces and business even more money in his unplanned, unscheduled epicurean urges. All the while, 48 of the 50 largest steel companies were going bankrupt around him, while he allowed illegal foreign dumping, and millions more lost their health insurance - even more of your tax dollars at work.

Political bitching aside, I curtailed my previously mentioned plans to fly (Thanks, TFR) and watched A1 depart from 6R on top of the parking garage. A woman and her son were sitting on their car hood while my friend and I watched from a few yards away. Not a peep from security, though I'm sure the cameras and Coast Guard Dauphin were keeping an eye on us.

Just a note here - the helicopters that were flying with the President's VH-3D were CH-46E Sea Knights, not CH-47 Chinooks. The Marines handle all of the President's helicopter needs and they do not fly CH-47's.
