I saw on the flight tracker "Speedbird 285" listed as either a 747-100, 200 or 300. Did they bring any out of retirement? Unless the tracker is wrong.

Must be wrong since they have been retired for quite a while.

It looks like they filed type as B747 rather than B744, which is why the tracker assumed an older model.

I'm sure it was a B747-400 just filed as B747 which is not a B747-400!

OK, great thanks! It would be neat to see one around again but no such luck.

I remember back in 1991, my first trip aboard a BA 747 (not sure of the model). I was about 10 years old, and I remember flying YYZ-LHR. I could not comprehend how this thing could get moving so fast! I remember that we were sat in the middle section about half way back. Good job they had pillow service back then because it took about 8 of those suckers to prop me up so I could watch the movie. The coolest part was going to visit the captain. He let my brother turn a little knob which made us turn (or perhaps whatever he did made him think he was steering the plane). To a 10 year old, it was the greatest experience ever!!!!

Flying home, we were on a brand new 747 (I think less than a year old), and it was just amazing! I think I drove my parents crazy though because I could not get over the time difference. For the next week, I was going to bed at 9PM, then getting up around 3AM (the time in Britain would have been like 8AM). I soldiered on like this for a week! My parents were less than impressed because I can still remember my mom telling me to go back to bed.

Oh the memories!

Quoting Cruiser (Reply 4):

That's really strange because I've heard of 2 other Canadians being allowed to do that but no one else. I sense a bit of favoritism  wink

I think it has something to do with Tim Hortons, and how the pilots were on their way home after getting their 'fix' of the stuff!  Wink
