I remember back in 1991, my first trip aboard a BA 747 (not sure of the model). I was about 10 years old, and I remember flying YYZ-LHR. I could not comprehend how this thing could get moving so fast! I remember that we were sat in the middle section about half way back. Good job they had pillow service back then because it took about 8 of those suckers to prop me up so I could watch the movie. The coolest part was going to visit the captain. He let my brother turn a little knob which made us turn (or perhaps whatever he did made him think he was steering the plane). To a 10 year old, it was the greatest experience ever!!!!
Flying home, we were on a brand new 747 (I think less than a year old), and it was just amazing! I think I drove my parents crazy though because I could not get over the time difference. For the next week, I was going to bed at 9PM, then getting up around 3AM (the time in Britain would have been like 8AM). I soldiered on like this for a week! My parents were less than impressed because I can still remember my mom telling me to go back to bed.
Oh the memories!
