Hello all,

With my new 'local' airport starting (EU only!) flights next Thursday, I wondered if anyone in here had any knowledge of prior aircraft movements in and out of the airport?

As I understand it, Thomsonfly are basing 3x 733 and 1x 738 aircraft there to begin with, more following.

I'd just like to get down there with the camera to see the 'first' flights before operations fully start.

Regards,

Tim.

Has the Robin Hood title been dropped yet? Everyone here is still taking the mickey out of that stupid name. Us Yorkshire folk will be calling it Donny airport.

unfortunately not. Though tour operators and everyone else seem to now be simply referring to it as DSA, similar to how they do LBA I guess.

Thanks A3221fly,

I know the schedules though, I was really wondering about flights before next Thurs. Presumably, the aircraft are going to be ferried in over the next few days, assuming they haven't already.

I read somewhere the other day that a Waddington based AWACS had been in for some reason.

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the state of play re aircraft at the minute.

I would have thought aircraft would not arrive until the day before or even early on 28th, i dont think they would want them parked there for days.

I've just come across this website if anyone is interested:

Looks as though they have their CAA license now (as of 19th), so can start the non-EU flights. Talk about cutting it fine.........

Yeah apparently a few Thomsonfly aircraft are due in a few days prior to the airport opening. The only time I will be there though will be on the open day of the airport, inbound on the first FR flight DUB-DSA Big grin. From that day onwards I will finally have aircraft on finals to an airport other than SZD going over my house at low level!!! Big grin

Oly720man,

I've been looking into this a bit more. The flights on Tuesday are for airline and airport staff. They are about 30 mins in length.

Does anyone know if there are any scheduled to go out in the afternoon? The two I found times for are in the morning. I might head down there and check the place out on Tuesday if there's anything to see, if not it will be Thursday evening.

Hey Tim, the 4 737s will be arriving on Tuesday as you say, and will be doing a couple of flights in the morning for staff.

There will be a flight at 9:15 for half an hour, and another at 11.15.

Not sure of any flights in the afternoon or evening but I might see you up there.

I will definitely be up there Thursday also, with some friends.

If you wish to contact me here is my email address. cheesy_peas@blueyonder.co.uk

No, That is Sheffield City Airport your referring to, which is pretty much dead now.

Doncaster Sheffield airport is the UKs newest airport, opening Thursday this week, (28th). It is based on an old RAF base, used by vulcans during the later wars.

Currently Thompsonfly and a few other holiday carriers will be based there, but the runway is big enough for larger operations, @ ~2900m.

Sheffield City is likely to close within a few years and be turned into a business park, so maybe they are thinking for the future.

Hello everyone again,

I hadn't realized there had been any more replies to this thread.

I had intended to go down to DSA today (Tues) to see some of the TOM 737s flying about. Anyway it looks as though a BY 757 positioned in from LGW to do the staff trips and then only one TOM 737 landed after 3pm. I have a mountain of other things to do this week, so it might be Saturday before I'm across. I hope the weather holds out for all you guys who are going to be there on Thurs!

Had a ride across last Saturday and it looks as though there are some potentially good spots for photography.

NCLairport, the operational runway length is 9000ft off the top of my head, not sure what it is at NCL.
