Yes, I just received an email from Airbus, saying:

We would like to inform you that there is a strong possibility that the A380 will fly next week. We cannot give you an exact date and time as maiden flights are subject to many conditions that we cannot control such as weather conditions.

Therefore, from Monday 25 April, please consult our web site every morning (GMT+2) for more information.

When it flies, I'll believe it. Until then, I'll just wait and watch...I'm sick of hearing "strong possibility" of flying this week, oh sorry, we have to push it back to next week, wait, now it's going to be next Monday...it's getting old.

Probably not nearly as sick as other folks are of hearing ignorant immature (Anti-A380, Anti-who-knows-whatever-else) remarks like this one right here!

(Kaman. Find something better to do instead, or learn more about flight testing, or something. It's getting old)  fluffy

As for the A380 frankly I think it's probably sort of good that the weather's so uncooperative this week, as I'm sure the flight test investigative guys have lots of little things to look at and maybe even check or tweak even after every rolling test and especially RTO that the pilots carry out. Plus the weather delays spreads out the media crush and panting expectations a bit as well, which can't be a bad thing for this sort of major premiere-type event.

My remark was not ignorant nor anti-A380. I want to see it fly, I just don't think Airbus should keep tagging us along, changing dates and what not. When they are 100% positive it will fly a certain day, excluding unpredicatble events such as poorly forcasted weather, THEN and ONLY THEN should they annouce it. Until then, keep us in the dark.

I know perfectly well why the A380 is not flying yet. And it shouldn't fly until Airbus knows it's ready. But Airbus should also not be releasing possible dates, because we get into stupid fights like this. The day it flies will be...the day it flies. April, May, September, whenever...it doesn't matter. I'd rather see a safe, successful flight than a rushed failure.

Be fair FriendlySkies. Europe doesn't necessarily have the good weather of America. Besides, this is a brand new huge aircraft with more things to go wrong. You have to expect them to sort through some problems. The same thing has gone on with other new aircraft from all manufacturers.

If the A380 does fly next week (Monday or so), it would be a way to mark a milestone in my own life: My 30th birthday (nearly a third of a century)! (Monday is my birthday, and my first birthday living in London as an American student).

What better way to mark my birthday (or the week of such) than by watching the first flight live on Airbus.com!

(Yes, I got the same invitation from Airbus too).

Slight difference...Airbus was basically never the one to announce any flight. Always rumors, and unofficial information. This is the first email that Airbus sends out regarding the flight. I'm sure that whenever the weather is right next week, it's going to happen.

Airbus is not building the airplane so that all of us who are into this sit here wondering whats going on, and when it's gonna happen, though. I highly doubt they're sitting in a boardroom going "okay, lets let them hang another day guys" HAHA  Smile

They've added the whole functionality to their website JUST for people like us, to keep anyone who may be interested in this, happy.

Ask MOST people you know, who you've never had a conversation about the "big double decker" airplane, and almost NO ONE has heard about it here in North America. People don't care, only we do.

by the way, I didn't take your post as anti-a380 either.

Does Airbus give spectators an Advance Information that the Flight is Tmrw/Today etc.

You probably all know that there has been a possibility to join Airbus' mailing list for the first flight of 380. Well this was the first email ever from that mailing list.

Just as LHSebi said here earlier:

Quoting LHSebi (Reply 14):
Slight difference...Airbus was basically never the one to announce any flight. Always rumors, and unofficial information. This is the first email that Airbus sends out regarding the flight

If some of you does has not joined Airbus email list, here is what Airbus has emailed:

"Dear LordHowe,

The Airbus team is pleased to include you among the privileged visitors who are offered the possibility to watch the live broadcast of the A380 First flight on Airbus.com.

Just before the day of the first flight, the site will display pages dedicated to the event, including a special A380 lounge reserved for watching the live broadcast of the first flight.
Find below your personal access information to enter the "A380 Lounge":
Login: XXXX
Password: ZZZZ

Your login and password are personal. They are valid for this event only, and will not allow several simultaneous connections on the day of the event.

Please be aware that your company's firewall may prevent you from watching live broadcasts.

We look forward to sharing this aviation milestone with you.

The Airbus team."

So, if they tell us to consult their website from Monday and tell us at the same time that "Just before the day of the first flight the site will display pages dedicated to the event..." we can understand from this that it most definitely will not be on Monday!!

Regards,
LordHowe
