Hi Everyone,

I have a friend connecting at Frankfurt and have some questions regards timing and luggage. Thanks for your input in advance.

My friend is coming into Frankfurt on Turkmenistan airlines (from Turkmenistan) and has 2 hours before leaving on KLM to Amsterdam.

My first question is if this two hours is enough to go thru passport control/screening at Frankfurt? (assuming that after screening one has to go outside and come back in!). Any idea of the speed and streamline of this process here?

or is it just a connecting location with immigration at Amsterdam?

I am assuming since this is the first entrance into the EU, my friend will have to go thru immigration etc at Frankfurt. Is that correct?

My friend is an American hence has a American passport.

Also, any idea which terminal Turkmenistan airlines arrives at and KLM leaves from?

Thank you!

If his luggage is checked through all the way to AMS, he won't have to collect it to go through customs - he'll be doing that in AMS. If his luggage isn't checked through to AMS, he'll have to go through customs with it, which - less because of customs and more because of the waiting for the luggage - will add a considerable amount of time.

He will, in any case, have to clear immigration here - with an American passport, that should be rather hassle-free... so, if everything goes according to plan, I'd say he could be through everything in anywhere between 15 and 45 minutes (depending on the time and how many other flights come in at the same time): a flight from Turkmenistan will be checked rather thoroughly, but, again, with a US passport, that shouldn't be any trouble.

All in all, I'd say that 2 hours should be doable, but it will be pushing things a bit... especially if he has to get his luggage.

Regards,
Frank

Hi,

Your friend should not have any problem at with a 2 hour transfer time at FRA. KLM and Turkmen both use T2 D gates. He will only have to go through passport control to get ot the schengen area. This should not be a problem in 2 hours.
