Adria Airways are operating 2 flights from Ljubjana to Cairo today (JP3340 and JP6094), which is the airline's first visit to CAI. In addition Egyptian airline, Air Memphis, is also operating a flight (MHS151) between the two cities. All three flights are with A320s. Can anyone shed any light what these flights are for? Its seems like quite alot of capacity for a new route. Are these new regular charters or just one offs?

On a slightly different note is it true JP have retired one of there three A320's?? Are they serious about baseing the business around there 5 CRJ's? Those CRJ's have been turning up in London far too often!!

I doubt that, if you look at Ljubljana airport's arrival you'll see these 3 A320 flights:

JP6124 Djerba 11:30
JP6158 Antalya 12:00
JP6526 Sharm El Sheikh 12:00
http://www.lju-airport.si/eng/flight.asp?mode=d&IDm=210

All three flight arrive within 30 minutes which would indicate they still have S5-AAA/B/C.

They are charters. Egypt is really popular over here so there are lot of charters to Egypt lately. It does happen sometimes with IST as well, that two or even three planes leaving within 20 minutes.

This is not true.

Quoting Flycro (Reply 2):

Actually they are... Now their fleet is 7 CRJ's and 3 A320. One of CRJ's is in Star Alliance colors.

Actually, it isn't. It is a great site, very reliable.  Wink

Four digit flight numbers indicates that they are charters. All regular services have three digit flight numbers.

Thanks for the info Lehovec. I realise there are many charters to Egypt but they're all to Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Luxor but never to Cairo. So I am surprised that all of a sudden there are 3 A320 flights (about 450 seats) on a route that has never been served before. So will these JP charters be flown on a regular basis (i.e during the entire summer season)?

I am waiting for some more information from LJU airport but my guess is that it was probably ad hoc charter bought out by tourist agency.
When I will get more info I will let you know.

LJU airport just confirmed what I wrote in previous post. Charters were bought out by tourist agency.

So was it only an ad hoc charter or does the tour operator/travel agencies have a program for the summer season?

I was hoping this was going to be a regular charter that could become a scheduled service at a later date if successful.

Well, there will be more charters but they all depend on travel agencies. I have checked with the biggest and you can expect direct flight to/from LJU on 30th April. No idea though who will be operating this flights (MHS or JP).

Scheduled service... hmmm... I don't think so, all planes flying to Egypt are bought out by travel agencies and I don't think there is much O&D for individual travelers. Maybe once a week or something like that, but even this only during winter.

Hi Horus,

I have already seen an Air Adria aircraft back in April 1992 at CAI. It was a charter flight.

Something slightly different that I have been long looking for. Do you know where on the internet, I can get a map of the aiport of CAI.

Thanks for the info Lehovec. I'll try and keep a track on the LJU-CAI route over the coming weeks.

Hey Tolosy! I stand corrected about JP and CAI.

As for you request, I genuinely doubt you'll find any map of CAI online as I am sure you're well aware that security is extremely tight. When I was last in Cairo (in February) me and 2 friends went spotting and aircraft began landing on runway 23L/R (which is extremely rare) so we took a car to get around the airport and it was amazing how every 200 yards or so there's a military police post...and thats around the most of the airport perimeter! However there are a few locations around the airport where you can get fantastic photos but you need to 'know' Cairo and you must have a car.

Are you planning a visit there soon?
