VR Pics Of UA First Suite

Exciting news! Anyone can now take a VR tour of the "new" First Suite cabin at any of UAL's Latin American sites. All I have to say is that the First Suite looks are elegant, classy, and contemporary -- kinda like a hybrid between BA/QF First, SR First, CX First, SQ First (although not nearly as lavish as the latter 3). Any comments?

It is very nice indeed! I have been meaning to post my pics on airliners.net of it...

With the 747 cabin filled with those seats, it makes the front look pretty dull and depressing (all of the gray). It's really too bad that UA didn't put a lot of wood veneer on the seats such as SR, CX, and SQ, but oh well--it's still very nice!! I'm looking forward to trying out SR's seats when they come to Carmel, CA on the 26th of May!!

Have you seen the VR tour of the seats? I know the paneling is not wood, but the way the pictures are taken, it looks like the paneling has some wood accent or something -- it's a brownish gray. But you've probably seen the seats in person, so you're the verdict! Also, I thought that the cabin was a lot more airy than United Business (very dark, somber gray); I especially thought the embroidery on the First Suite seats were tasteful.
BTW, have you seen the new Decor 5? The VR tour is of the plane with the old-style interior (yet new B/E coach seats with B/E DSV9)... I wonder how the first suite will look Bluish as it is purported to be under the new Decor. I kinda like the way it is now and wish they wouldn't change it. However, I feel that Business and Coach (*especially*) are welcome and due for major restyling. I hope they change the wall laminates from puke yellow to gray or something.
One more thing: why on earth is SR coming to Carmel with its new FC seats? Tell me the details of this event! I'd like to go, if I could -- seeing that I live right on the SF Bay Area peninsula (San Carlos, to be precise).

Alright, the purpose of this reply was mainly to revive this post
Anyways, I've another question for you, FLY (or to any UAL info phreak): with DSV9, how does one control the video and audio channels? Do you simply use the one on the armrest, as if once you are done cycling through the 9 video channels, the screen goes blank and says you're onto the other 16+ audio channels? I'm curious as I've only experience the GEC Marconi (read: crap) UA PTVs.
Also: what are the screen sizes for each class of the B/E Aerospace DSV9 PTVs? It seems as if the new First Suite PTVs are slightly larger than its predecessors -- at least 9/10" or so.

From what I remeber, the "wood" is nothing more than a laminate picture (same stuff as what's on the new UA FC traytables on the 747-400's and 767-300ER's). The cabin just looks...dark. It's not the seats themselves that look dark, it's just the dark gray color of the partitions and the way that they cover up any other color of seat that might be infront of them.

I haven't seen the new Decor 5 in person--only in some of the UA mailings, and I must say--it looks VERY nice! The blue/green checkered pattern that is on one of the FC seats in the pics (and the matching carpet) looks very good. I can't wait to see what they do with Economy, though! Eiiiccchhh--I'm sick of that gray/rainbow scheme (have you noticed that the seat designs are a carryover from the brown/red seat cover days as far as fabric designs?!).

The sidewalls have had a major improvement on all the planes that I've been on recently (with the exception of the '27's). All of those aircraft in the past 4 months (A319, 3x 757, 2x 777, 2x 747, 727, 737) have had brand new, gleaming white sidewalls (HOORAY!), but the 727's had the old pattern of white with "cream" (?) drawings/designs on it, and one of my 727 windows had the origional window shade on it!

I have no clue as to why SR would choose to come to Carmel! They would have been much better off just touring SF/SJ/OK!! I'm doing this from memory now--SR will be in Carmel on Monday, May 22, and in SF from Wed. 24-Fri. 26th of May (more details AQUI).

All of your controls are on the armrest and operate basically the same way as the GEC PTV's. There is only one "MODE" button to press, which then will allow you to select four diffent modes (audio, video, Airshow, or tape). If you've cycled through the 9 channels of movies, then it will take you up to channels 20-50 which are the foreign language channels, before taking you back to channel 1. In order to get to audio, you must hit the "MODE" button, and then choose from the audio channels (if you press "MAP", then the last audio channel you were on will play). Hope that makes sense!

The PTV's in FC on all of the planes is 6.5" diagonally (the UF Suite PTV is pretty deceptive--but all of the FC PTV's seem larger than BC to me...)

Whew! Thanks for readin' the essay!

Please do post the photos to Airliners.Net. I don't believe any First Suite photos are in the cabin interiors directory. Please scan them in and post them. I'd love to see more photos of the First Suite.

Try this web address. http://www.ualargentina.com
The link will be right on the front page. (The VR tour is availabe on all UAL Latin American sites -- in this case, Argentina, for instance.)

Once again, you have been the definitive -- and generous -- source of info on any and everything UAL. Just wanted to give a big shout out and kudos to you! Thanks for all the info bro!
