Does anyone have any information on the magnitude of the probable Airbus or Boeing order Emirates plans to place at the Paris Air Show?
Recently, Chairman of Emirates Shaikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, has indicated the airline is now considering the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350, to place fresh orders to meet surging demand for capacity on new and existing routes.
I think both aircraft are too small for EK's requirements as the airline is realizing the A330 to be too small for most of its routes. As destinations are added, the A330 is suitable but as markets in these destinations grow (usually a year or more in EK's case), the A330 becomes too small. Examples include A330 flights to Accra, Lagos, Dusseldorf, etc.
In any case, a/c with smaller capacities are a must in adding new routes in uncharted territories. As EK is now serving major capitals in Europe, Africa and Asia, new routes will be developed to regional cities (Alexandria, Abuja, Kinshasa, Dakar, Barcelona, Durban) and the 787 or A350 would be most suitable.
